My mom just said if you open a can of formula it's only good for four weeks after you open it? Is this true? The best before date says sometime in 2008 but she says that's only for before you open it. I hope this isn't true because I barely use formula and I bought one huge can and i've barely dented it and I guess the four weeks would be up in a couple of days.

This isn't true is it? It doesn't make sense to me.

Sh*t I just went and reread the can I guess it's true.

Man i'm pissed. That was one of those huge cans and it was expensive and because I don't really use formula barely any is gone and now it's all wasted. Man oh man i'm so mad.

Wait. I didn't come home from the hospital until she was a week old so I guess it has a little more than a week still so I can just keep a little for myself and give it to my friend who isn't breastfeeding and she can use it so it's not wasted.

Man I hate wasting money.

Yeah, that does suck. You wouldn't think powder would go bad. I know the pre-mixed, liquid formula goes bad reeeeeeeeeally fast, but I never knew just how long the powder was good for. Now I know.

Tanya, you should buy some ready made. It's a little more expensive, but it's much easier to use if it's only once in a while and no waste as it's 1 bottle (or less cause she's so young) each time. Also the liquid form is easier for them to digest, so i've heard. Powder form really shouldn't be used untill 6 months or somehting. But that could just be a total crock of sh*t. Confused

I think that if you are using only a little here and there buy the smaller cans because you will most likely us it before 4 weeks is up. Or like jess said.....Buy the little bottles of pre-made....They are a little cheeper and it saves a little time. Just pop a nip on them and they are ready to go.

Ugh! I did the same thing when chu was first born. I bought a giant can of liquid formula thinking I would save money. Then after I opened it realized that it would go bad... Grr!!!

Also, another thing everyone should know. The powdered formula is not bacteria free, only the liquid stuff is. My sisters children both have heart conditions and they are only able to use the liquid because the power is unsafe. Just a little note for everyone who uses the powder.

it says right on the can it's not sterile and to not use it if your baby is premature or has immune problems.

we have ever since she was born (besides the 3 days in the hospital it was liquid) she will soon be able to have whole milk. But if the powder form is unsafe, why is it still in the stores Question

Mandi it's not unsafe, it's unsafe if your baby is premature or has a weakened immune system. Normal healthy babies are at no risk.

I pesonally hate the liquid kind. After you open a can it goes in the refrigrator and gets cold and takes longer to get it warm. Its faster to me to use the powder kind. Plus if you have to go out you have to put it in a bottle and that bottle dont last long.

They told me that with .Amelia having .R.S.V.....I thought it was weird...But they said that if she gets worse that I will have to switch her to the liquid form. But she is a tough girl and got thru it.

Oni's always been on .Soy. The concentrated liquid. It makes up to 30 oz. But if your breastfeeding, i'd go with .Gen's idea. Get the little pre made bottles and pop a nipple on one when you're ready to use it!

Oni's Dr. Didn't ask/mention if she was on powder/liqiud. But that's probably becasue you were breastfeeding prior to her .R.S.V.

I hate the powder. It's all clumpy n sh't. And it doesn't dissolve all the way, bleh! I hate it!!!

Oni doesn't mind cold bottles, I stopped warming em up at 4 months. She'll drink it extreemely cold. Or warmed up. I normally warm it up for her at night.

Lol...Oni could care less about the temp! Lol...Cold, hot, whatever. She ain't picky *at all*!

I mean, hell, I might as well get her used to it. I ain't gonna be warmin up cows milk every time I put it in her cup.

I've had .Oni on a sippy cup since 6 months. (and she loooves the one .Chu has, .K! It's the sh'ttt!)

she thinks she's such a big girl... Rolling Eyes
