Q: Post Hysterectomy

2 weeks ago I had a total hysterectomy, I have always had bowel trouble, but since the hysterectomy my trouble has not got better. If anything, its worse because I don't want to strain. I have a lot of pain and pressure before a bowel movement and a lot of gas. I don't want to start using laxitives, but feel the need to use one, some times I have the same pain and pressure and cant even have a bowel movement even though I feel like I need to, is this normal?

Hysterectomy
I had a complete hysterectomy on 4/24/07. I have been experiencing alot of gas as well as bowel problems, again, like you, also afraid to strain. From what I've been reading on other sites, this is normal after hysterectomy. Also, I have been VERY depressed; I feel like I'm here going through the motions, but that's about it. Very scary...I'm afraid I'm going to feel like this forever!

Thanks for your reply! It has now been 4 months since my hysterectomy and I am doing so much better...the gas has passed and my Dr. told me of a med. that you can buy over the counter, its a stool softner and mild laxative that has been a life saver! I take them Mon. Wed. and Fri. I am now regular!
Sorry to hear that you have been depresseed Sad ...I didn't have any trouble with that, but I have been on anti-depressents for years now, I guess that is what is keeping me sane! You should tell your Dr. Maybe he can get you on something that will help with that. Its only been less then a month since your hysterectomy...you won't feel this way forever...you will be back to your old self in no time...keep your chin up!

Bumpy Scar Post Hysterectomy With Itching
I'm 10 days post total abdominal hysterectomy. The scar is horizontal like a bikini line, but on one corner, there's a bump where the stitches end and they left a knot. It is now looking like an "outie" belly button or something on my left side! YUCK. Can they fix that?
Also, it is ITCHING like crazy, both above and below the incision. I have used Benadryl, Vitamin E skin creams, and anything I can think of, but the itching has interrupted my sleep. What can I do? I phoned the dr., but she's on vacation, and the on-call dr. says "try Benadryl." Yeah? Well, it DOESN"T work! :cry Sad

Re: Bumpy Scar Post Hysterectomy With Itching
It has been almost 6 months since my hysterectomy and I am doing 100% better! I had a C-section 16 years ago with the birth of my son and when I had my hysterectomy they cut me in the same place, which was vertical...I had a knot at the bottom of my scar and the Dr. told me it was just scar tissue and it would eventually go away and it has...I am still a little sore, but only when I lean up against something...I don't know if what you have on your side is that or what, but if it don't go away, the Dr. should have to fix it!
About the itching...I was always told that if a scar itches, that means its healing...I don't know what to tell you what to make it stop itching, Benadryl would be what I would suggest, but since that don't work, I just don't know. I hope that goes away as you continue to heal. Best wishes to you and know in a few months you will be feeling as good as new! Very Happy
