Q: Can I get pregnant if I have colon cancer?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 30th, 2007
I had stage Colon Cancer. I am a CA colon patient. Undergone surgery in March 2004 followed by 6 cycles of chemo therapy with 5 fu leukoverin and Oxaliplatin. the i had undergone radiation in december 2004. My current CT-scan report is clean.
My menstrual cycle have been abnomal during chemo with a delay of 1 and months but had been frequent after completing the chemo, with twice in a month. but past 1 year shows regular menstrual cycle.
Do I qualify for pregnancy under current condition? If so, when can I really plan for it? What are the precautions I need to take during this time?
please help!!!

Given the therapy you describe, surgery plus radio- and chemo-therapy, it seems that you are experiencing cancer stage II or higher. You might succeed in achieving pregnancy because your cycles became normal but most physicians would probably not recommend that you become pregnant. Pregnancy can worsen s malignant disease! You can consult a surgeon, oncologist and gynecologist for an expert opinion.
