I'm new to this but thought I would post a question since its been buging me for awhile. I'm 20 and have been having unprotected sex for about 2 years, I have ovarian cysts and irregular periods. Me and my boyfriend have been trying to get pregnant we have unprotected sex usually every other day. I was just wondering since we've been trying so long with no luck if i'm infertile. I know he's fertile because hes been tested. I'm not really sure what ovulation is because i've never noticed anything diffrent. If someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks

That's a great question for your doctor. There are a few different types of cysts, and we don't really know what kind you have, how big they are, how many there are, etc. All of that stuff can make a difference. Many women get ovarian cysts. They are usually benign, do not interfere with fertility, and even go away on their own. If they don't go away on their own or are interfering with fertility, then the cysts could even be a sign of a larger problem. Your doctor may decide to remove the cysts if they are a problem. Keep going to the ob-gyn and asking her questions. She should monitor your cysts and see if they need to be removed or are a sign of another problem.

Most women do not notice any changes when they are ovulating. Most women have no idea when they are actually ovulating.

Hello,

ovulation occurs when a egg is released for your ovaries...The simplest natural method of predicting ovulation involves simply counting days, although this method is often not very reliable. A better natural method involves using physical signs such as basal body temperature and cervical mucous changes...So 14 days after your cycle ,14 days later you should ovulate, thats when you can try to concieve, they have charts online free ones that you can follow..Signs of ovulation is different in every woman. When you have the chance to speak to a Dr. They would be more helpful because he or she will be able to take a look at the problem. Good luck to you.

you ovulate 14 days .B.E.F.O.R.E your .N.E.X.T period. Not 14 days after the one you just had. So it would be hard to count cycle days if your period is irregular.

Re: Am I Fertile
OMG, I have the same exact problem...funny thing is im 20 also! my boyfriend is older than i am, 28yrs to be exact, so hes pushing 30 so hes ready to settle down and have kids, and so am i..problem is, he has a low sperm count, and awhile back when i was having irregular periods, i went for an ultrasound, and they found a small cyst on my ovaries...i havnt checked it since, and that was 5 yrs ago,,so i dont know if that could may be the problem or its just because of my boyfriend having a low sperm count...maybe its both of us! that would really suck, i wouldnt know what to do in a case like that!!

Re
Same exact problem, im 21, bf is 28. Unprotected sex for about 3 yrs, When I was growing up I had ovarian cysts, and extremely painful periods, (I still do just not quite as bad) and there is only 3 weeks between each period now.
The doctors could not find any on my ultrasound and said they were gone..I am so confused and frustrated.

There are many types of cysts you can get on your ovaries, but if you have PCOS (Poly cystic ovarian syndrome) your chances of getting pregnant are slimmer. When a woman ovulates, they do so because of a release of hormones - PCOS is a condition where those hormones are out of balance. Often if a woman has PCOS they simply will not ovulate. This is what causes the irregular and missed periods. The cysts themselves usually last a few weeks, then go away. This would also be the reason why a doctor could not find cysts on an ultrasound if they had found them before.
If you cannot see a doctor, do your best to keep a healthy weight and lower your sugar intake (PCOS is thought to be linked to insulin levels and type II diabetes.)
If you can see a doctor (remember there are many low cost clinics that go on a sliding scale based upon your income) they will probably start you on a drug called Glucophage, or Metformin - it's a drug for diabetics that also helps women with PCOS. If that doesn't work, the next phase is to try Clomid, a fertility medication, then both of those in conjunction.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

please help.
I am now 24. I first got my period at 12, but soon after became anorexic, lost 50 pounds in six month and also lost my period. I went from being anorexic to bulimic; throwing up and taking massive amounts of laxatives (up to 60 a day). This bad habit has persisted in varying degrees from age 15 to 24. Also, during the beginning of my illness, my mom and gyno thought it best to put me on the Pill to get back my period. I had lots of sex without condoms, and have never been tested for anything. I am most concerned that because of he eating disorder I am infertile. I have been on the pill since I lost my period; I don't know what would happen naturally....do you think I can get pregnant naturally?
