Hey I posted earlier that I had missed two pills in a row so on friday I took three pills. So two days later I missed another (i know what you ladies are thinking lol) anyway I was having sex during this. A few days later I had a bit of pale pink spotting just enough to notice, it was only there like for one day, I was wondering if this is because I missed so many pills or could I be preggo. My boyfriend and I been together 8 years so its not a big deal if I am we are well prepared. Oh and I know the only way to know is to test but I was wondering if anything like this happenend to you or someone you know thanks

Anything is possible. Being even 12 hours late with your pill can increase your chance of getting pregnant. If you miss a whole day, that makes it even more likely you will pregnant, and obviously if you miss more than that you certainly are at even greater risk of getting pregnant. It is recommended that if you forget a pill, you use a back up method of birth control for a week. Here's a helpful site that answers a lot of general pill questions.

" what happens if I miss a dose?

* missing a pill increases the risk of becoming pregnant.

* follow the exact directions on your package information insert concerning missed doses. If you do not have a package information insert, call your pharmacist, doctor, or nurse to find out what to do.

* in general:
o if you miss one dose, take it as soon as you remember or take two pills at the time of your next regularly scheduled dose. There is little likelihood that ovulation will occur. You may, however, want to use a second method of birth control such as a condom or a spermicidal cream, jelly, or foam for at least seven consecutive days following the missed tablet to ensure protection from pregnancy.

O if you miss two tablets in a row, take the two missed tablets as soon as you remember or with your next regularly scheduled dose (three total). Or, you may take two tablets each for the next two regularly scheduled doses (one missed tablet plus one regularly scheduled tablet for 2 days in a row). Chances are much greater that you may ovulate so you must use another form of birth control for at least 7 days following the missed tablets. It is even better to use a second method of birth control until your next period.

O if you miss three tablets in a row, throw away the package and start a new package on the 7th day after the last day you took a pill. Use another method of birth control until you have taken a pill for 7 days in a row. Your period should occur during the 7 days without pills. If it doesn't, have a pregnancy test before beginning a new package of pills.

* read all of the information in your package information insert. It may have slightly different instructions in the case of missed pills. Talk to your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor if you have any questions."

I thought I would make a second post about bleeding since the first one was so long. Many women have what is called implantation spotting very early on in pregnancy. This could be what you noticed.

"after ovulation the egg travels into the uterus and burrows into the lining of the uterus. For some women implantation will cause slight bleeding or spotting. This is called implantation bleeding. This is sometimes confused for an early period."

It is not super likely that you would ovulate so soon after missing the pills. It can happen, but not likely. In fact, many women coming off the pill find their first cycles are a bit long and it takes the body some time to gear up to ovulate again. I didn't have a period for 35 days after stopping the pill and didn't ovulate until day 27 of my cycle (very short luteal phase initially after the pill, only 8 days). So that's roughly the equivalent of 27 missed pills before I actually ovulated again, and even women with 28 day cycles after stopping the pill don't ovulate until around day 14. So while you could be pregnant, I doubt it. Women are most fertile in the 3 days before ovulation, the day of ovulation and the day after ovulation.

The pink spotting is probably because your body is trying to adjust to the skipped pills and having to take multiple pills at once. Many women notice when they miss even 1 pill and have to take 2 pills the next day, it can cause spotting. It's not abnormal. I have a feeling you're ok.
