Hello i'm 34 with a wife and a son and daughter . In 2001 I had a l4/5 laminectomy, after a 17 week recovery I was back to work as a firefighter with no pain. In 2006 I was lifting a medical patient and herniated l4/5 l5/s1. My surgeon performed l4-l5,l5-s1 laminectomy, posterolateral lumbar interbody bone graft fusion, lateral fusion and pedicle screw instrumentation . After the surgery there was a great amount of pain that got worse within three weeks I had to go to the emergency room due to no medicine would relieve the pain , a malogram was done and found that one screw was not in the correct position. The surgeon did a second surgery and removed the screws. It has been 2 months since the second surgery and even though the pain is not as great as it was between the two surgerys it still hurts as bad even before the first surgery. I can't seat for long periods and even lying down hurts when i'm on one side, I can stand longer than any thing. At this time the doctor wants no physical therapy.
I just don't understand will the pain ever go away, I am presently taking medicine three times a day just to be able to get out. Its so hard going from such a active life to a standstill. I do like my doctor but my wife and I are thinking of a second doctor. Any body any suggestions , ill take any thing right now??Sad

I'm so sorry you are having sich a hard time. I wish I had something to say that would help. I've had 2 fusions and no relief from either. I'm actually having the pain pump put in tomorrow. My last neurosurgeon (who is known as the best) told me that it can take a full year to fully know if it will help.

I hope you start to feel better. I definitely think another opinion is a good idea. Good luck!
