Q: Partial Hysterectomy.. I Need Info Please!!!

I am to have a partial hysterectomy soon, leaving the ovaries if healthy. I need to know if periods continue if the cervix is left in place. Does the cervix really hold the pelvic floor in place? Or is incontinence a common occurance when thec cervix is removed? I don't want to have a follow up surgery later to put the bladder back if it falls. I had 3 kids and my abdominal muscles aren't terrific. I could live with a light period each month if it means I won't have to be opened up again for bladder placement. Please let me know if anyone has info on these items. My doctor just told me a little and then told me to research it myself. Thanks! Confused

Partial Hysterectomy
Hi, i;m having a partial hysterectomy in 9 days. You don't have any bleeding if you leave the cervics once you have recovered from the surgery. I hear orgasms are better leaving the cervics too. Go to the site the mayo clinic for the best info i've seen on this subject. Find a new Dr. He should answer all your questions not send you elsewhere. Good luck. Too many cats

*some* (i can't remember the stats but it was a minority) women do have cyclical bleeding from the cervix after a supracervical hysterectomy (i.E. Hysterectomy with leaving the cervix). Some doctors performs a procedure similar to endometrial ablation to reduce the chance of bleeding from cervix at the period time.

I had a hyst last year in may, left my ovaries, took my cervix. I still get small bleeding, due to the fact that there are some cervical cells left, and they will shed during the time when I am supposed to have a period. As for the bladder thing, I have bladder troubles, however not incontinence. Sex and orgasm are still excellent, even though I don't have a cervix. I think it really depends, because everyone is different.
