Q: Symptoms of Parkinson Syndrome
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 27th, 2007
Recently am developing spasms in both right and left index fingers that infrequently extend to my entire hands. I am not doing repetitive work that could potentially induce carpal tunnel syndrome. Also I'm not under stress at this time.

Symptoms come and go. At times moderate and always painless, but very disconcerting. They've become increasingly persistent over the last several weeks, usually when I'm at rest.

However, over the last few days I've found myself hiding the symptoms while interacting with other people. That is what's beginning to concern me.

Without trying to alarm myself, it (sense of stiffness) seems to be spreading up my right arm at times. Nothing alarming, but I find myself shaking off my arm as if to right the sensation.

Please don't get me wrong. It is not severe or even moderate. It is just that I'm almost 50 years old and have never experienced anything like it and I'm just looking for a little advice.

Thank you for your help and advice.

According to your description (painless spasms or shaking of both index fingers that extend up to whole arm), you'll need a neurological examination to outline the condition. The neurological symptoms you describe appear to be similar to those found during extra-pyramidal syndromes including Parkinson syndrome. You should visit your primary health provider as soon as possible and ask for a referral to a neurologist to confirm or exclude Parkinson syndrome.
