Q: STD? Genital bump on labia
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 27th, 2007
Every once in awhile, I get a big bump on my labia minora. It seems like a pimple , it gets a little sore, but isn't unbearable. Its no accompanied by any other, just one bump. After a little bit of time, even though its painful, you can mash it, and it will pop, and puss like substance, accompanied by a little blood shoots out of the bump. I like to believe that this is not no kind of HIV. After you mash it, and it empties, it heals up. I have read something about some type of cyst? Anyways, regardless of what it may be, whats the severity of it? Ive had pap smears, not while i had A bump though, but if they had detected ANYTHING at all they would have let me know right?

According to your description (“one recurrent painful big bump on the labia minora that expels pus when popped), you could be experiencing inflammation/infection of the Bartholini gland. The excretory canal of the gland becomes blocked due to inflammation can create an inflamed cyst. Pain is a dominant symptom during infection of the Bartholini gland. A local surgical incision can treat the condition but it usually repeats after a while. Definitive treatment that will prevent recurrent symtpoms includes surgical treatment of the cyst (marsupialisation ).

It doesn't seem likely that you are experiencing an HIV-infection because HIV-infection does not manifested with genital bumps and cysts!
