Q: Back Pain And Sharp Pains In My Side. Help!

Hi,

over the passed year i've been experiencing a sharp stabbing pain in my left side off and on every now and then. It will only last a second. Now, I have pain in my lower back on both sides but I believe it started on my left side. I didn't think much of it but now i'm really starting to worry about it being my kidneys.

I went to the doctor a few months back about some swelling on my left side and he sent me to a urologist. I had my urine tested and got some blood tests done and everything came out fine so I lied and told him everything was fine after he told me it was probably just constipation.

I have difficulty urinating especially when I drink alot. I have to force the urine to come out and push with my abdomen really hard. When I was younger I was really backward and would hold my urine in for hours and hours at a time because I was too ashamed to ask to use the rest room. Now, that i'm older sometimes if I hold it in I can't go at all even if I want to I have to try and force it out and my bladder doesn't feel fully emptied half the time.

I'm really starting to worry that I did severe damage to my kidneys, prostate, bladder, etc. I've had abdominal pains for years. Sometimes my stomach would hurt when i'd press on it. I thought it was just gas but now i'm worried.

Anyone else experience anything like this or have any advice?

I feel the exact same thing. It feels like when I bend the wrong way I get this numbing, stabbing back pain in my mid back area on each side that only lasts a couple of seconds. I thought it might be my kidneys too. I haven't been to the doctor but I really feel like I need to go. I've also had problems before urinating..I've had many bladder infections, but i've never felt this weird pain before.

Hi Renee. Definitley get it checked out. I talked to a nurse who said I may have had a urinary tract infection that's starting spread to my kidneys.

I've already scheduled an apointment with my doctor. I need a referral to go back to the urologist.
