Q: Bad Bad News

My mom's dog has to be put to sleep.

She bred him and still has his mom.
Bear.
He's a pure border collie.
He was born on my birthday (17th).
He was the 4th puppy of the litter and had a black number "4" on top of his head although as he grew up you couldn't see it because he has quite a long coat.

He's got a tumour growing through his heart and it keeps bleeding into his pericardium.
H ttp://www.Vetinfo.Com/dencyclopedia/dehems arcoma.Html

a couple weeks ago he collapsed - no previous signs.
My mom's current partner is a vet so he had him in to check him over and said he had a weak heart and they put him on some drugs.
Bear, never really got better and so today they took him to a cardiac specialist and thats what they found.

Although he hasn't had any bleeding (nosebleeds etc).

That is terrible news!!! I remember how sad I was when I had to have my beloved boss lady put to sleep. I took a day off from work. I'm so sorry your mom has to go through that.

There are some really sweet "dog poems" out there, maybe you could find one that your mom would like and have it framed with bear's picture. We did that for my dad when his dog passed. He still has it.

Kia, I have a 14 year old poodle, .Monique.

I'm *dreading* the day she dies/has to be put down. I'm going to cry like a little girl. Crying
or Very sad

she's been such a huge part of my life. Being that i'm an only child, she was always there for me to cry to, talk to, etc. When my parents continually fought. She was there with me through everything.

I can't finish....

Oh, that is so sad. I'm sorry, kia.

I just read a book called 'marley and me' about a man and his relationship with his dog and I was sobbing at the end when the dog had to be put to sleep. I still have many years left with my dog but i'm going to be a mess when his time comes.

Oops! Sorry for giving away the ending but it is the life of the dog so you have to know it's coming! Nick gave it to me for christmas, it's a really good book. Get some tissues! I can't believe how much I cried during it.

I'm sorry to hear that .Kia! Bear is no longer in pain, so that's a positive note....It's never easy losing a pet. I sobbed when my bunny died, he was a week shy from his 8th birthday, and he died in my arms....It's a long story, but it was the day I came to bring him back to our real home that he passed.

Ah .Kia, i'm really sorry. I know how much it hurts to lose a beloved animal, they are part of the family. I still miss my golden retriever, .Sunny, whom I grew up with. He was such a character and we all loved him so much.

Big hugs Crying

Awww that's terrible news! My dog, who we had for 11 (almost 12) years, had to be put down because she kept having seizures and she had a bad heart in the end. But the worst part was, I was away in university (10 hour drive away at the time). I still miss her a lot and that was 3 years ago. And last weekend my friend's dog (my dog's sister) had to be put down. She had just turned 15 in december!!! But they both had long lives and but they both just got worse in the last couple of years. So it's all for the best really. Poor things... Sad
