According to the major symptom you report (falling hair from one spot of the head) you are probably experiencing some kind of circumscriptive alopecia. Circumscriptive alopecia is restricted to an area of the head. According to the prognosis of the condition, circumscriptive alopecias are subdivided into 2 main categories: I. Reversible and 2. Irreversible.
I. Reversible circumscriptive alopecias include:
1. Alopecia areata (an autoimmune, inflammatory cause);
2. Postinfective alopecia (occurs after bacterial, viral or mycotic skin infections);
3. Traumatic alopecia (occurs after trauma), and
4. Infantile alopecia (occurs in babies that drink breast milk that contains hormones received from the mother).
II. Irreversible circumscriptive alopecias include:
1. Alopecias during congenital dermatoses;
2. Acquired alopecias (due to contusions, corrosions, combustions, X-ray irradiation and skin infections), and
3. Specific alopecias: Pseudopelade Brocq (this type has an unknown cause); pseudopeladic conditions (due to various systemic diseases like lupus, sarcoidosis, malignant diseases etc.). and
4. Scalp’s dermatoses.
You can consult a dermatologist for establishing the correct diagnosis and to start proper treatment.
