I didn't start it until my pediatrician cleared it.

Good rule of thumb on taking advice from people: unless they are a doctor or have had a baby in the last 7 years, they are not up to speed on modernchild rearing practices.

Ask your doctor about starting cereal and see what they say. Best advice I can give you. Wink

I started with a little at night when trey was about 14-15 (3 1/2months) weeks old. I actually gave him a little at 6 weeks, felt horrible and didn;t give him anymore till 3 1/2 months. Oh and it did not change his sleeping habits at all, so everyone who says it helps them sleep is a liar!!! Lol j/k trey just hates to sleep. Always has and still does. Sad

I started it quite early with joseph, if u think the babies ready u can try alil, the lady at the wic office said when I go back inapril I can ge tthe cereal on the wic vouchers jordynne will be about like er 4 mths then, I think 3-4 mths if they can handle it well. Its more so if they can get the swallowing of it down since the consistency is a bit diff, try the single grain rice one first though before u try oatmeal and the barley ones etc

oni's Dr. Put her on cereal at 3 weeks. At 5 weeks, he put her on veggies. I tried the veggies, didn't like them, so I waited about a month to give them to her regularly.

The cereal though, is something you need to discuss with his Dr. Not with .Shawn's grandmaw.

My sis in law's mother gave her son cereal without her permission. The poor bebe alerady had reflux and the cereal made it worse.

So def talk to his Dr. Before giving him anything!

Edited to add: oni started sleeping *through the night* at 5 weeks. Whether that has anything to do with cereal before her last bottle, I don't know. But I know it helped her.

Here is some good info that I know helped me a lot, take a look, make sure in your browser all the letters are lowercase.

Http://www.Kellymom.Com/nutrition/solid s/delay-solids.Html

also, the american acadamey of pediatrics now recommends starting solids at 6-8 months.

"the american academy of pediatrics (aap) acknowledges that there are no "strict" age guidelines on introducing solid foods to your baby. However, the aap, along with the cdc and the who do recommend that you offer nothing but breast milk and/or formula until you baby is at least 6 months old.

this ensures optimal nutritional exposure and may stave off food allergies amongst other issues. Further studies have shown that an infant's gastrointestinal tract has not or may not have matured enough to properly digest/utilize solid foods until around 6-8 months old! (see page end for reference links)"

and here is the link to that info:
http ://www.Wholesomebabyfood.Com/readyforsolid s.Htm

many doctors are not up to date with things!
I just want people to be well informed.

Finn's pediatrician mentioned starting him around 4 months but that we'd talk about it more at his next appointment, which isn't until 4 1/2 months. If your doctor didn't mention it, I wouldn't do it if I were you. I'm sure he'll bring it up at your next appointment.

I agree with laura, older people are not up to speed with what's done regarding babies these days. My mom tried to put finn's car seat facing forward because that's how they did it when I was a baby. She thought I was silly and openly mocked me when I said I wouldn't be turning him forward until he's at least 1.

The only reason .Milly is on them is because she started loosing weight when she got ill, she didn't need them she was gaining weight just fine....But then in the hospital they had to put her on a feeding tube and I had to stop breast feeding....And they put her on solids.

I got the green light at her 4 month checkup. I opted to wait until the .New .Year because of all the holiday excitement coming up. We started cereal a few days shy of her 5 month mark, and veggies yesterday (5 1/2 months).

Reese dosnt have anyt doc appointments, I called the doc after his shots and asked if he need to get a cheak up or anything and the doc said its pointless taking him in unless he's sick, I have a doc appointment today (reese and I have the same doc) so maybe I can ask him when I go in to see what he thinks?

Won't resse have a 4 month appointment? I think that's when the next round of shots is... I wouldn't give it to him before 4 months, only because i'm afraid of having an overweight child. They get everything they need from formula or breast milk.

.Tre started around one month or so.. Just the formula wasn't doing it for him, so I mixed in some cereal in his formula to give it a little bit of substance. Of course I ran it by his doctor, and of course the doctor said that babies grow differently, they feed differently etc. He said that the main thing was that .Tre was a very healthy baby and to keep doing what I was doing.
