Q: Formula Help

I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow morning but I have a little bit of an issue. Chuy won't drink his formula and hasn't since friday morning. Friday morning before I left for work he had one (10) ounce bottle of similac and hasn't drank another since. Now he seems perfectly healthy. No fever, very cheerful, no crying. About 2-3 messy diapers a day and about he's wetting normally as well. He's eating. He either has oatmeal, wheat cereal or eggs and toast for breakfast. He eats a fruit, a veggie and rice for lunch and he usually eats what we eat mashed or cut up for dinner. He's had apple, grape and/or pear juice (half juice/half water, the way the doctor told us to do) each day but he will not drink any formula. I give it to him and he spits it out. I tried adding a little more water, nothing, a little less water, nothing, a pinch of sugar and still nothing. I even tried switching to enfamil that my mom sent us. He simply won't drink it. Any suggestions? Anyone go through this? Help, please!

Sounds like he is getting enough "other fluids" and nutrients from food.

How old is he again? Maybe try giving him a smaller bottle.
But from the sounds of it he knows juice tastes better and he'd rather hold out for that then drink the formula.

I think he probably prefers he juice - I mean anything tastes better than formula lol

i think he is just getting plenty of nutrients and stuff from his diet.

Try making his oatmeal or whatever with formula (unless you already do)

Actually kia, babies need the majority of the nutrients from formula for the first year. Chuy is only what, 8 months?
Have you tried offering it from a sippy cup instead of a bottle? Also, I agree that maybe since you introduced juice and all these other things, that he prefers them over formula....But still, every baby book I have ever read stated that most of babies nutrition comes from formula for the first year. Solids in infancy are mostly for "oral practice".
I would talk to the doc!

If he is eating and drinking everything else normally, I wouldn't worry about it because he is either going through a phase or he just doesn't like the taste any more like .Kia said. Including the formula in the cereal is enough, you don't need to give it to him in the bottle too.

Be prepared because he will have a lot more phases like this, one day he is going to love something and the next day its the last thing on earth he will eat.......During this time I would advise you not to buy anything in bulk.

Doctor said that I should try to make sure that he gets at least 24 oz of formula a day to make sure that he's getting all the vitamins that he needs. They told me his three meals a day snack is fine and to try giving him smaller amounts of formula in his sippy cup more frequently. If that doesn't work, instead of fighting with him to make him drink it, they will prescribe vitamin drops for him to make sure his nutritional requirements are met while he's on solids. They said that they have a few babies there that start on solids and no longer want to continue on formula and some of them are very stubborn about it! Laughing

When .Tre was around that age maybe younger (can't remember) we started him on poly-vi-sol, its an infant vitamin made by enfamil. Because he became so finicky with his food we wanted to ensure that he was getting all of his viatmins.

that drives me nuts-lol like yesterday I made some of his "favorite" stuff. Salmon, yellow beans, and mashed potatos. And he only ate the salmon, kept spiting out everything else and saying "caca". Lmao

here they reccomend swtching to homo (whole) milk at 9 months, and chuy is almost there, so I wouldn't be too too worried. I give trey vitamins, they have them in liquid form. You can just go and buy them now if you're worried. He's gonna be fine, he;s the chuyster!!
