Posted here a few weeks back re. The old mother-in-law smoking around my pregnant girlfriend. Happy to report that we stood our ground and she finally caved in to our demands of not smoking in front of my g/f or the baby when its born, and ineed forever around the baby/child. Mind you it was not without a bitter fight after me asking very politely in the first instance. So far so good anyway and she hasn't smoked in front of us! (she wouldn't dare now!) we basically walked away from her for a week after some 'choice' words from myself and left hew to stew and eventually it caused a meeting with her and the father-in-law. Not very nice but it needed to happen as we were totally sick of it. So we feel less stressed and looking forward to a healthy baby!

Moral of the story, if you don't want someone smoking around you when you are pregnant or around your baby, don't give in to them - you are and baby are more important than a filthy habit! As we have found, its nice to be able to just walk away from the smoke but sometimes its very hard if the smoker is a family member and insists their habit is more important than the health of a baby. Its just so unfair to remove choice by smoking and inflict poison air on tiny lungs, or anyone else for that matter - I hate it!!!

We're happy now :d

That's good. I had the same prob with my mother-in law but it seems to be resolved now too since my kid has asthma and she's realized that if she smokes near him he ends up in the hosp. Confused

Good luck with everything!
