It's possible that you could be - but you probably had sex a little too late in your cycle. Let me explain:

you typically ovulate 14 days before your period is due. It's advisable to have sex during your most fertile time, so I would suggest tracking your periods. Write down the first day of your period for a few months to see what kind of cycle you're on. A lot of women have a 28 day cycle.

Begin having sex on day 10 - day 1 being the first day of your period. Have sex every day for a week or so. This will ensure that there is some sperm present when your egg releases and will increase your chances of conceiving.

Assuming your timing is right, you will have a 25% chance of conceiving. Follow these steps, and you'll probably conceive before the year is out.

In the meantime, take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning with your full bladder. If you're pregnant the pregnancy hormone will be most concentrated then, rather than later in the day. Good luck!

If you have already missed your period, it is not too early to test. At this point any test should be fine - but if you think your period could still be a few days away, you might want to buy an early detection test, such as .First .Response. These are a bit pricey though, so I would only recommend buying one if you think your period might not be "late".

I would recommend buying a "pack" of them. Some tests come with multiple sticks. If you're not pregnant this cycle, you'll be testing again in the future, so they won't go to waste. Store-brand tests seem to work just as well as name-brand, so really any brand should be fine.

We have a new "am I pregnant" forum, so I will move this over there.

I would test today since you have "missed" a period. Good luck!
