Is there any way to get birth control without having to do the pap test? It's a first for me and i'm really not comfortable with it...

Yes, I was put on birth control before I had my first pap. They will advise you to get a pap as soon as possible though.

Yes, many doctors will give you the pill without making you get the pap smear, although to be honest, I would suggest getting it. Everyone has a first time. Even after many pap tests, I still get pretty nervous going in. I don't know of anyone who enjoys getting it done, but it's just one of those things. It's just something that we have to do if we want to be sexually active adults. I highly recommend getting it done even if the doctor says that you don't have to. The pap smear itself takes about two minutes once a year. My mother says that she always feels great walking out of the ob-gyn after a pap smear because she knows that she is safe and healthy. :d it's not fun, but it's good for you.

Depending upon your age and sexual activity (some people take bc for reasons other than pregnancy) most doctors will make you have a pap done if not before you start they will require it within a few months after the start date or they may not refill your rx for your pills. It is very important to have one done annually. I know it is very uncomfortable, but the peace of mind afterwords is great.

1. It depends on your state.
2. For example, New York's laws state that if you are sexually active -or- if you are over the age of 18, you need a pap smear before you are allowed to get birth control. Planned parenthood requires it, as do many private clinics.
3. it's not scary! It's not that painful either. If you use tampons, it's only a little bigger than that. Most gyns are very very kind; they know what you're going through! It doesn't take long. He or she will smoosh your stomach a little (always tickles and makes me have to pee!) to check on your uterus and ovaries. Then they'll lube up a speculum and insert it, widening it once it's inside. Then, they'll stick in a giant q-tip to swab your cervix, and you're done!
