Q: Headaches & brain aneurysm
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 19th, 2007
I am a 21 year old female. Conditions I currently have are TMJ and Hashimoto's thyroid disease.
I am going on the 5th month of head pain. It began with a severe one-sided pounding headache along with tons of pressure, then localized to the temple area with pressure and deep, gnawing jabs of pain. Eventually it decreased to a moderate pain in the temple that comes in deep, gnawing jabs. It is mostly present at night and in the morning, along with deep pain in the ears. Occasionally I will have sharper jabs during the day and sharp pain behind my eye. I have occasional numbness in the area along with a numb eye and a weaker eye muscle in the morning.
I had 1 MRI with contrast which was unremarkable.
I am currently on my second course of amoxicillin (1st was at beginning) since a doc thought possible sinus infection. (though no tests were done). It is not helping.
I have an appt. with a neuro but it's not for a few weeks. Any idea on what this could be? And, what would the MRI with and without contrast have ruled out? I'm particularly concerned about brain aneurysm. Thanks!

It is hard to say what is causing your headaches. There are many possible reasons for headaches including sinusitis and TMJ. An MRI can rule out brain tumors. A brain arteriography can rule out aneurysms.
