Smaller dogs can have huge attitudes though. I think if you research the breed you can see if they have a good reputation with children.

My neighbors have 3 hot dog dogs and they are the most obnoxious things (both the dogs and the neighbors). They bark non stop, they pi$$ and crap all through their house, and if they get out of their fence they are so nasty.

By and large, i'm not a fan of small dogs. I've never met one that I liked. They seem to bark more and as a general rule be more aggressive. I was bitten in the face by a pug puppy. I was in the pet store getting to know it because I wanted to buy a little pug when it bit me. It didn't break skin but I didn't buy a pug either... Aggressive little buggers!

Maybe you could get a medium-sized dog, like a border collie? Collies are sooo friendly! I know german shepards are great with kids, but they're also huge dogs Shocked

I've never had a collie. I think the hair would drive me crazy though. I'm probably going to look into short haired breeds. We have a really furry cat and her hair is always everywhere I don't think I could stand cleaning up dog hair and cat hair. Plus dh has allergies... Rolling Eyes funny how his allergies weren't aggravated by the short haired dogs even though they shed too, and they're not aggravated by the cat either... I'm suspecting he's not as much of a dog person as he claims...

That's true, I didn't think about the long fur. Laughing

.Alyvia tries to grab at the cat now. Every time we come near .Asia with the baby she bolts! She's terrified of .Aly. Shocked

I have a border collie and she's gorgeous.. And so clever! But yeah she sheds hair everywhere.. Especially in summer. Luckily the dark patterned carpet hides most of it. Hehe

i also have a lurcher (border collie-greyhound cross) and she was a rescue dog. We think she was kicked by her previous owners coz she's afraid of feet. It's really sad. Greyhounds and lurchers are great though.. People think they need lots of exercise but really they're lazy and spend most of the day crashed out! They do have random spurts of energy though, it's so funny to watch.

I had a rotty that we got when my daughter was 4. We had to put her down 2 years ago because her hips/arthritis was so bad. She was the best dog!!! She loved kids and wasn't the least bit aggressive. She never barked and other than being a big dog and looking mean, she was a wimp.
She was very well behaved and smart. When I got her I took her out to her "potty spot" and she never had an accident in the house unless she was sick.

I must say for a short haired dog she shed like crazy.

She was great with our cats too

any dog can bark and crap through anyones house and be nasty...But i've decided a no-go on any type of animal in the house. Just because an animal in the house is gross. There's hair on everything and I don't think that's good for a baby that eats everything in sight.

So i'll pass for now. Haha.
