Q: Working the Core Muscles

Hey guys and gals,

i was wondering if anyone knew any good workouts I can do, preferrably by myself, to strengthen the core muscles. Back in pe class at school we used to do this one workout where one person stood on a balance cushion thing and the other person through a large heavy ball and the person had to catch it while keeping there balance.

But currently I have access to neither the equipment or a workout partner.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
kevin29

ps: do push-ups work the same muscles as bench-presses would?

What core muscles are you talking about?

Push ups and bench presses work completely different muscle groups... :\

Anything that makes you feel a burn in your lower back, stomach area and sides is a good core workout.

Bench press works the chest.
The pectorals.
They're technically not a part of the core.
