Some Advice After Surgery?
Posted: 01-18-07 21:19pm

I just came back from the hospital this morning. Was there for 3 days cuz I had an aggressive uterine infection. I was hooked up to an iv and antibiotics the whole time. And I kept geting shots of demerol in my bum and I was sooooo stoned and high the whole time. Lol.

I was so pissed to cuz monday I went to my obgyn they did an ultrasound, said I had a complete m/c took some blood, I told him I had a fever all day and I was extremely faint and nausoues and he just excused it for a bug going around and sent me home. I got even worse later that day and went to er just in case. Yup. Uterine infection Shocked (that's the third time my obgyn said there was nothing wrong with me and then I end up in the hospital twice-i'm switching doctors Evil or
Very Mad )

the next night they gave me the ru486("abortion pills") to try to get the leftover tissue out, didn't work. *so* painful though. Thank god for demerol :d then the next night they perfromed a d&c and everything turned out okay. They sent me home with more antibiotics I have to take orally

i feel okay now(just all drugged up and loopy). But gawd-what an awful week.

How long do you think I should wait to have sex again? Is it okay if I start after I stop bleeding or should I wait a few weeks? How long does it usually take to stop bleeding after a d&c?

Geez, sounds like an ordeal. Sorry you had to go through all that. Sad

when I had my d&c I was told I could have sex once I stopped bleeding. I only bled for like a day and it was light spotting though so I wasn't about to go having sex that soon. I think I waited a week or 2, I don't remember, I know it wasn't long though.

The bleeding is different for everyone. Like I said, I had none but I know someone else who bled for almost a month.

I hope you're feeling better physically!

The doctor who performed the d&c said "if I wanted to concieve right away, I can, but it's better for my body to wait a couple cycles though" i'm not planning on concieving but if he said it was okay to concieve I assume that i'm okay to have sex right away lol

i don't really feel very sexy though Confused I'm just double checking

i think, if you have a .Uterine .Infection you are being treated for, in addition to a d&c, you should probably wait awhile on the sex. When is your next doctor's appointment? Two weeks, i'd assume.

Yeah a d&c is basically an abortion and you must wait a couple of weeks to prevent serious infection which can leave you infertile...Sorry about the whole ordeal its awful!

Aw im sorry you had to go through all that! I would definatly get a new doctor too.

After I had to go trough a d&c I didnt start bleeding (only spotted a few times after surgery) till 1 1/2-2 weeks later than it lasted for 8 wks!!! It really sucked. Also it was about 14 wks before I even had sex again. It hurt really bad and felt really tender in the back. But everyone is deffernt in the healing part. I would ask your doctor and see what they say. I know the doc that done my surgery told me to wait 8 wks because of the risk of infection.

i'm concerned this wasn't covered in your discharge papers from the hospital. For instance, you can't wear tampons either - only pads. And no baths. No douching, etc. Nothing is to be inserted at all.

they told me about the tampons and baths. Never said I couldn't insert anything else. He literally said "if you wanted to get pregnant right away, you could, but it's best for your body to wait a couple cycles" I was so doped up when I was leaving I never asked about sex-i was never planning on concieving-but obviously-it's the same thing. But like I said, i'm not gonna risk it anyway. It still hurts to pee so I assume it's gonna hurt if anything else goes up there.

no, it is not.

A d&c is a surgical procedure, it is used for various uterine ailments, not just abortion.
This poor girl just had a miscarriage.

Sometimes you really ought think before you type, nancy.
