Hello everyone im looking for some advice. Well I started getting migraines when I was 15 and I will be 19 in a few months. They have gotten much worse in the past year I now suffer with them everyday. Ive been on preventives such as: inderal, propranolo, neurontin, topamax, amitriptyline, depakote er and folic acid(which I am currently on). For pain meds im on: zomig, imitrex, naproxen, and butalital(which made me very sick). Ive even switched my birth control which is surposed to help with migraines. I wake up with a migraine and I got to sleep with one. I sleep all day because of the preventives. Sometimes the pain is so bad that I bang my head against a wall just cause that feels better than the migraine. I just cant take the pain anymore and it makes me cry which makes the migraine even worse so I forced to deal with it. My doctor cant figure out why there so bad and so frequent. Ive had m.R.I's, every blood test in the book and nothing. Can someone help me please I cant live like this anymore.

That's Me Too!!
Hi, my migraines have also gotten worse with age. I'm about to try: septoplasty, a nose operation. You might check it. Neurologysts don't believe in it, but i've heard a lot about it from people not suffering with them anymore after the operation. It's worth the try.
I will! Laughing
good luck!

So many things to say, I just hope I remember them all. I too started getting migraines at 15 (now 4Cool but after trying many meds found that what worked best for me was mersyndols (pharmacists can dispense them here) & I still take them, all the others just didn't help.

But mine were never as bad as yours - have you been tested (really thoroughly) for allergies???? My daughter (15) started geting migraines at 12 when we bought her a solid pine bedroom suite - it was 6 months before she could go back into her room!! Turns out she's highly allergic to anything even remotely petroleum based (pine is treated with something which has a touch of the stuff!!). She often bangs her head against a wall or the car if she comes into contact (or breathes in) with it & it's in perfumes, deodorants, cleansers & so so much.

The other thing with her is she is immune to pain killers. She may as well have water as codeine forte, or anything else. We discovered this when she had 3 wisdom teeth removed & nothing worked on the pain. She might as well be taking water.

So first if the pain killers do not help, get rid of them.
Second get tested for allergies.
Third, try & think whether anything happened, new furniture, periods starting, new washing powder or new tress/shrubs etc anything about the time that the migraines started that may give you a starting point for maybe fixing things.
Fourth, try alternative medicines, accupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, vitamin & mineral supplements (talk to a good health food store about what might help ease migraines.
Fifth, i'd see another dr, couldn't hurt & might help.

How Do You Get Tested For Alergies?
Is it through blood tests? Where can I find out through the internet?

Allergies, there are specialists (here we get a referal to one from our local dr) who test with pin pricks on your skin for various things you can be allergic to) my daughter hasn't had this, our local dr accepts that she has an allergy to petroleum based products simply because of the severity & immediacy of her reactions to such products.

Which is why you need to conssider what (if anything) you could be allergic to as it's impossible for any dr to test for everything in the world today!!

As to searching on-line go to a search engine - there's lots of them I use google.Com or yahoo.Com (a librarian would be a good source of information on these sites) and where it has space for the search topic type in what can cause migraines or causes of migraines or allergic reactions etc.

Pm me if you get nowhere.

Altitude Pressure?
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to give that ”miraculous” answer either. However ….. I’ve been getting migraines since I was a teenager too. I don’t get them as bad as you’ve described but something interesting happened to me. When I moved down to rhodesia (zimbabwe) I started to get migraines every day and they lasted all day long.

So what do you think about the possibility of change of altitude pressure? I don’t know where you live but have you noticed a difference in pain when visiting another part of the country/world?
