I'm gonna say cheap-o. 99% of the time, they usually suck and you know that the person made it for you because they either didn't have any money to spend or didn't want to spend any money on you. There is the occasional good homemade gift. Like I know a lady that makes candy professionally so when she gives you a basket of homemade fudge, you're over the moon.

I dont' know which way to go on this. I make all my birthday, christmas and other holiday cards.....So I dont' know...In the long run yeah it cost me more to make them because of the stuff I use. But I love doing it.

But as far as making gifts...Then no....But I will give pumkin/bananna nut bread to people......And cookies and cakes....But nto really as gifts...But maybe like a 'thinking of you'

Well, bugger then.

It was my nan's birthday and she wanted a birthstone necklace, but I couldn't find a nice one.

So, as I make the odd bit of jewellery I made her one.
The stones were real (not just coloured glass) garnet and rock crystal.
I made matching braclet and earrings too.
Then laid them in burgandy jewellery boxes tied with silver ribbons.
And, made a burgandy and silver card to match.

I like it when people make things, whether they have money or ot.Its cute and personal and I tend to like it when people actually put thought into things instead of just buying something at the store that half of america already has!

yup, the card alone cost me near £10 when I could have bought a shop one for £2.

I couldn't price the gemstones because I already bought them for jewellery making, along with my tools and wires over time.

i do scrapbooking, I have done it for years so I have really had the stuff for a while but when I use it to make cards it costs a lot of money....I love making stuff like that...

Now if your making things like you have made then I think that is wonderful. I was thinking more along the lines of like coffee mugs and like ashtrays.

that's fine because obviously you have some talent with it and you've got it all packaged nicely. If it looks professional then you're good to go, she won't even know that it didn't come from a store. I'm talking about people who make things like the ladies in my building. They're always giving me some homemade magnets, crocheted blankets in hideous colors, doilies, dirty looking tins of homemade candy, lamps made of painted popsicle sticks, handmade dolls that look like they've been pulled through the town dump, etc. Oh yeah and I have a friend that makes candles but they're all ugly and sad looking.

your nunu wanted her birthstone, and you couldnt' find it so you made her something more her 'style'. I think that is great. I dont' think that there is anything wrong with that.

Post a pict of it.....If you could....I wanna see

I think it depends on the person making the gift.

I love homemade things because well to me it feels asthough a lot of thought has gone into it. Personally I would much rather have a card my neice and nephew made for me then have my sister buy a present for them to give me

I don't mind homemade things the bring a personal touch to the gift, as long as it was made with love and specifically for me. I love homemade gifts from kids especially

i have a problem when people give you homemade gifts when its obvious that they did not have you in mind when they made the gift, or when it is sloppily put together.

I think that it would depend on the skill of the person that is giving the gift. For instance, my sister makes gorgeous diaper bags that she embroiders with the baby's name. That is an awesome present. However, her sister-in-law tries the same thing and it turns out to be pure crap! I wouldn't want the bag from the sister-in-law. So that is how I view that.

I think it also depends on the person receiving the gift. I know for sure my mil and my husband both would much rather have something I made than something I went out and bought. I would also rather have something handmade (good quality) than something that was bought.

I look at it as the person spent their time and effort on me and I think thats cool! When I make gifts though, I make sure it's something that will be quality and not a peice of junk. Like for my mother in law this year for .Christmas, I made her a crocheted blanket that matched her living room (which is a very odd color of green, that you just can't find stuff for) I found yarn that matched. It was big enough for a king size bed. For my neices, I made them purses, silk lining and all. Nobody in their school will have anything as unique, they loved them. And for my husband, his grandmother passed away and they were super close, so I gathered old pictures of her and made a scrapbook for him. Brought him to tears, because he loved it so much.

So, really it depends on the gift and the person you give it to as well. The gift has to mean something to the person.

I bet kia's grandma loved the necklace and bracelet set!
