I resently had a cold, but now that the cold is gone, i'm getting this odd odor in the back of my nose that I smell when I breathe in or out. It also affects the flavors of the food I eat. It is not always present, and just when I think it's gone, it reappears. Is this some sort of infection in the nasal area that can be home treated, or is a physician needed? Do I need an antibiotic?

I have the same proble this smell in my mouth that comes and goes and just smells foul and taste bad. Other people around me can smell it to and its so embarassing. I think its a bacteria that eats protien and emmits sulfur compounds into the air as a breath it lives in your throat and mucus. Im going to my ENT to tell him what i think.

I have been experiencing the same symptoms for the last few years. I have been to doctors, they have done every kind of exam, the dentist, taken stomach medications, changed my diet. But it remains and changes odors. Right now it smells like urine as I breathe in I smell it. I never know what, when or how strong it will be. It is really embarrassing. Sometimes it seems to be coming from my body also. I have tried nasal washing, now I'm trying baking soda. Most of the time it seems to be coming from my nose, but then when it comes from my mouth it is really horrible. Somebody HELP.

i also suspect myself of having halitosis but when i goto the dentist she said my breath is not bad and im just paranoid about with the idea of halitosis.. still im not contented and goto ENT specialist he also said i dont have halitosis but i insist that theres really something wrong so he checked my throat, ears and nose and he said i have persistent allergic rhinitis and acute rhinipharyngitis and it might be the cause of the odor im worried about he prescribed me a nasal spray and 3 kind of meds a bit pricey though..
so much better if you have to consult your dentist first then if you're clear with oral try ENT it might be just caused by inflammation somewhere in your nose throat and ears since they are interconnected. if still there's no problem spotted by ENT try gastronomist or cardiologist.
Hope it helps..

I also have the same problem and I have spend a lot of money to remedy my long time battle for bad breath. First, it started with a rotten teeth smell that really sucks coz I am actually a back-up singer and my collegues would literally move away from me because of my terrible smell. So I tried Mints (that help for several minutes only) then I tried all kinds of mouthwashes from cheap to the most expensive one (it still didn't solve the problem). And to my horror one morning I woke up and just thinking that I again would have to battle mingling with the crowd and choose not to speak because of my bad breath BUT lately I just realize that even without speaking they are still covering their nose. And I heard someone saying he smells like poofs! And one of my neice approach me and said "Tito why your nose smells like poofs?". And gosh! I ran back home and tried cleaning my nostrils and still no improvement! I go to work everyday and my boss and colleagues would not choose to sit beside me during meetings as I was doing a Project Management role. It really embarasses me as I am a very hygenic person and yet I have this terrible odor that I developed a year ago. It started from mouth bad breath then it elevated to Nose Odor. I had the thought of resigning from my Job as I can no longer take the mockery that my colleagues says to me whenever I overhear them saying "He is full of it" and would start to laugh! They also dont want to go with me during break time. I eat my lunch and dinner alone! I cried so many nights because of this curse! Because I almost tried everything including specialists and medications but noone and nothing solved my problem.

Until I have found a very effective cure from this site thru googling many hours: Organic Activated Charcoal is the answer! Take note not just an ordinary Activated Charcoal (Coz I tried that too and it only did a small development). It is a bit expensive but when I took the 14 capsules after my breakfast in one go and let it settle for 30 minutes in my stomach. I asked my neice if my nose still smells poofs. At first, she was hesistant because she knows how terrible the smell is! but she understand my pain after I explained that I was trying a medication called organic activated charcoal. And to her surprise and to my surprise she said "Tito the smell was gone! what did you do?"

I was totally relieved and when I arrived at work, at first my colleagues are covering their nose when I entered. And eventually they started talking to me and I can confirm that the odor coming from my nose and mouth are gone!

I am regularly taking my 14 capsules as I believe this is because of indigestion that all food particles stucked in my stomach began to rot that caused it to smell like poofs or rotten flesh! And would need all of it to be flushed away from my digestive system.

Ei guys spread the word as I know how painful it is to suffer from this kind of disease. Below is the link for the Organic Activated Charcoal. Make sure you buy this one but you are free to try other brands but as I told you i tried the other activated charcoal and nothing worked!

I am just trying to help you guys this was recommended to me by a friend. And thank God I am no longer in that bondage of curse!

smell of dirty socks in nose
I don't know about the charcoal but it is usually caused by the build up of mucus in back of throat. If you gargle every night with 3percent Hydrogen peroxide it clears your nose smell. That is GARGLE NOT SWALLOW. 3percent peroxide is a great mouth wash and you can even brush your teeth with it. Plus its cheap.

How I got rid of the horrible smell
The rotten, horrible smell that so many people suffer from, like I did myself, usually comes from either the sinuses, tonsils, or the back of your tongue.

When mucus dries or becomes stagnant, it begins to smell really bad. Places where mucus can become stagnant are the sinuses, the tonsils or the back of the tongue.

Mucus is produced in the sinuses, so if you have a blocked sinus, by either a polyp, bent or blocking cartilage, or a deviated septum, you will have stagnant and running mucus.

The mucus usually drains down the back of your throat and onto your tonsils and the back of your tongue. So now that there is mucus that is dried on the back of your tongue, in and around your tonsils, and in your sinuses, there are 3 possible places for the horrible smell to emit from (most likely all 3 places smell).

In order to get rid of your problem, you must figure out where your problem originates from.

When I was a kid I sucked my thumb and would always have my index finger over my nose while sucking my thumb. I remember going to sleep doing this practically every night, so my nose was constantly getting pressed down throughout my childhood.

Needless to say, my nose was bent on one side, which lead me to have horrible sinus problems throughout my teenage years and throughout my twenties.

Once I realized that the horrible smell was caused by my crooked nose, I knew I had to have surgery to straighten up my nose. Once the nose was straightened my sinuses opened up and drain properly now. A polyp was also found during surgery that had developed deep in my sinuses. The ENT who did the surgery said the polyp smelled really horrible. Yuck.

I am 29 and I just had a septoplasty/rhinoplasty, and I can finally say that my problems are a part of my past. I no longer have bad breath, sinus problems, or breathing problems whatsoever.

So if you are suffering from a rotten smell, make sure your nose is not the source. If it is bent or crooked at all, then most likely if it was straight, your problem (smell) would be gone.

Diet
I have found that for me, there is no one magic bullet, but a combination of a few different things seems to help. I have a very difficult time digesting gluten and dairy, and eliminating these things along with sugar has really helped. My digestion is better, and therefore my sinus congestion is lessed, and overall bad breath is a less of a problem. It does still exist, if I'm not very careful about my diet, and my sinuses become congested and then dry (from all the heat blasting in winter), it will be back.

I pray for everyone who suffers with this, as I know what is a burden to carry and for many there is one no single answer.

Good luck to everyone!

Please try this, it works! Rinse your nose with saline solution. Take a qtip and polysporine, spread gently to the inner of the nostril. You will feel the difference the next day!

To keep this brief, if you want to put a dent in nasal odor or at least potentially find out whats causing it google water fasting. I know most of you know what it is but like me your probably not willing to give up food for any amount of time. Well i can tell you that if you have nasal odor or bad sinus issues this is a sure fire way to eliminate the cause of it all at the source. Reading about fasting youll learn that there are different types to suit people with medical conditions or people that just cant survive 3 or more days on nothing but water. The way i see it is either your fine with the hell that nasal odor/sinus problems cause or your willing to do what it takes to attain liberation of a sort. What ive learned is that the human body really can heal itself, but it first has to rid itself of allthe crap we constantly put in it.

Hi,

Did any of you try a nasal antibacterial wash or a nasal antifungal wash?

I got this problem following nasal surgery. The doctor has given me a 7 day course of antibiotics and i have had little improvement.

I also use a nasal saline wash twice a day and this has really cleaned my nose of old stagnant mucus solids. During the 1st wash I was shocked to see what has stuck up my nose.

Now I need to get rid of the smell and occasional nasty drip into my mouth from my nose.

Reading up on this topic I guess need something to kill the nasty bacteria/fungus in my nose.

What have you used?

I use saline, the ZPAK, as well as common flu meds, allergy meds, and two other antibiotics. When using the antibiotics the smell worsens, as well as with warm humid rain, and heat. It's crazy!!!! I feel like it's a disease, or some form of mersa, but resultS show nothing. I just showered again and that usually works for a day or so, depending on humidity, but it's lingering, and creeping up again. I don't know what to do... It's been a year and a buck but now I'm afraid it's an unknown growing epidemic! And finding a doctor, feels impossible. I don't want to go anywhere, let alone when I do go to a doctor, I'm afraid to be around others.

I have squirrelly reported this to emergency doctors, walk-in clinics, etc!!!! And they keep telling me it in my head! So I hooked up with an ex of mine, not thinking it was contagious, and wow!!!! It is!!! Please. If someone has any clue to this "epidemic," please direct me to whom I need to talk to. I have a child, and I don't think keeping her homeschooled in a bubble is the best for her. It me.

Concerns of a sudden displaced mother

The effects came on very quickly for my ex, as they did for me. From a previous relationship who said he had a "sinus infuction."

I too have suffered from this awful depressing smell. It started about a week after four of my wisdom teeth got surgically removed. I was at work when it happen. I didn't think anything of it at first. I had packing in three of my gums to help with my pain I had been having so I thought the smell was coming from that. Than It started to get worse and more frequent after a couple of days. After day three I knew something was wrong. I had been on PCN for a possible oral infection and pain meds. I immediately went to see my family Dr. who put me on Augmentin after hearing my symptoms. He said it sounds like a sinus infection. My symptoms were pressure headache, that radiates to my lower left jaw, and sinus pressure. I also bought myself some nedi pot rinses to help with cleaning my sinuses. I got this awful snot out of my nose after sitting over a pot of bowling steam water. I did thi for the next few days. I also went to see a ENT who scoped my sinuses, and said he thought I had a infection as well. He placed me on Solu-Medrol, and Afrin over the counter. I tried everything to get rid of the smell. I swabbed my nose with vinegar, alcohol, vodka, peroxide, and sanitizer. I thought it was working but I think it was in my mind. I even tried bowling water and placing Vicks rub in it and sitting over the pot. I got more snot out but the smell was there still. I tried the same thing with apple cidar vinegar no success. I almost used bleach but god wouldn't let me. Its been six days now and the smell has seem to die down to like 92%. Each day I have done the neti pot atleast 3-4 times a day, and took my other meds. I also tried baking soda and salt, half a teaspoon each and placd in the nedi pot. It seem to help as well. I leaned my head back and let the water fill my sinuses. I think it may have been a sinus infection. This has been my first one. I think the antibiotics have done the trick if I had to narrow it to one thing. I hope this helps someone. I was very depressed and did not want to be around anyone. The smeel go so bad I had to go home early from work because people were giving me terrible looks.I have a great Fiance who kept my spirits up.
