Straight sex is irrelevant. Hiv is not a "gay" disease, despite what you've heard. Drug use is also somewhat irrelevant, although it can be contracted that way. Hiv is sexually transmitted. Straight people catch it every single day.

It is a good idea to get yourself tested not only for hiv, but for other std's as well. If you have something, you need to know so you can receive treatment, and refrain from possibly spreading it to someone else. Go get tested, and remember to use protection in the future. Good luck.

Condoms! Everytime you have sex, unitl you are in a truly mongamous relationship. That is the key to staying disease free.

Please get tested for everything, many diseases do not have symptoms.

If you are concerned then it's the only mature thing to do. If you had anything wouldnt you want to know? But on the other side of the coin, just imagine how relieved you'd be if you find out you're clean after all this worrying??! Stop thinking about your embarrassment and fear and just do it!

Let me clarify. I am aware that it is not a "gay" disease. I just know according to some research it is a factor. That is all. Next I get regular screenings and am educated on std's. I just haven't gotten a hiv test due to the cost. I am dwelling out of fear and probably depression more than ignorance. I guess I am looking for others who have ever had this fear, how to deal with it, and information on the chances of contracting it.

It is normal that you feel fear for asking a hiv test. I would be too. And to make it worse even in ob/gyn places they don't ask to offer you the test, they only do if you request them. So I guess it is still your best shot when you go in for your annual pap's go ahead and ask for std tests. If you are young age I would ask for a chlamydia test as too because that one can cause infertility and is completetly symptom free.
