Q: Thrush

All of a sudden my nipples have been really pink and sore during and after feedings. I have been feeding her for 5 weeks without trouble (the first 3 we used a shield). My lactation consultant said my latch-on looks fine but she thinks I might have thrush. Brianne doesn't have the white patches in her mouth though... What type of doctor to I call to inquire about treatment? Do I call my gyno or a dermatologist?

Call your ob or pediatrician for the time being before and after every feeding clean your nipples with a wet wash cloth. I expierienced the same problem with my first son.

You need to go to your gyno/or her pediatrician.

I didn't breastfeed and .Oni got .Thrush. Let me tell you...What a *pain*!!!! Make sure it doesn't transfer to her mouth...Because swabbing her mouth 6 times a day with meds is *no* fun!!!

Let us know how it goes!

I called my ob and her ped and they both want to see us. I am going to see my ob at 2:45 (it is 1:06 here) and her ped at 4:30. When I called they asked me if she had white patches in her mouth and I said no. They asked my about my nipples and I told them that they are really pink and I feel a burning sensation when I feed her and even when i'm not feeding her. Then they asked me if she was fussy and gassy and I said yes b/c for the past link 10 days she has been crying and fussing for hours every day and she farts and burps all the time... She is constantly pulling herlegs up to her chest as though she is in pain. Crying
or Very sad is the fussiness a symptom of thrush?

No. Not at all. Maybe, becasue you don't have the white patches, they're thinking it's something else. Not sure of what though.

Pulling the legs to the chest is a sign of pain in the abdoman/stomach.
Oni had bad gas last night and her legs stayed up and in her chest. Nothing helped it...Nothing.

Let us know what they both say!!

Well it is thrush! My gyno gave me a prescription and her ped gave her this stuff to rub inside her mouth. Her ped said that her fussiness/gassiness is a result of the thrush and it should get better as it goes away. For the time being I am pumping my milk and giving it to her in a bottle (the avent naturally). My nipple hurt so bad! They burn and every once in a while they get these sharp pinching pains in them... My baby has been screaming with gas all day and I want so bad to nurse her to help comfort her but it is so painful Crying
or Very sad Crying
or Very sad Crying
or Very sad I hope this medicine works fast Sad
she has to drink 2 ounces of prune juice for a week too b/c she hasn't had a bowel movement in 6 days... She likes the prune juice though!

On a better note... She is 24 inches long, 11 pounds and she is doing great! She'll be starting rice cereal in march when she goes for her 4 month appointment Smile

The prunes work faster than you think!! Shocked

don't over do it!! Oni was constipated for about a week and I gave her a jar of prunes...About an hour later... Shocked Confused

The medicne doesn't work that quick. Is it a yellow medicne that you have to put in her mouth? It kinda smells fruity? Make sure you rub it *allll* over her entire mouth and she swallows it. It's probably in her throat and that's why she's in pain.

It never caused gas for .Oni...Hell, I wouldn't know, she was like 3 weeks old...

I'm glad that yall got it sorted out!!!!! It's a pain..Literally, but sooner than later, it'll be over!!!! I barely remember .Oni's thrush episode. She had it sever. She was on meds for about 2 1/2 weeks...Sucked...
