I started getting migraines about a year
ago...Probably around once or twice every
three months. Recently, i've been getting
them every week. I guess they land on the
more "severe" side. I have a high pain
tolerance, and my headaches really get to
me. I experience mild hallucinations
before and sometimes during my headaches.
Before my head starts hurting, I can smell
things that aren't really there (such as
burning dust, food, trash) and I have
visual disturbances. I suppose the best
way to describe them would be extreme
sensitivity to light, kind of like when
you get your eyes dilated at the
optometrist and you don't wear the wrap
around shades they give you. People and
animals get distorted, I see dogs as
having two heads, and my eyes are unable
to focus on anything.
The smells and visuals are soon replaced
with a pouding headache located in the
back of my neck/head. I get very
nauseous, and usually vomit. Sounds and
lights seem louder and brighter. This
lasts anywhere from 12-48 hours. They day
after, i'm always very sore with a slight
pain in my neck. Sometimes it's enough
for me to miss school, which isn't good
since i've already missed 10 or so due to
migraines. I haven't been able to
pinpoint the cause, they come on randomly
it seems.
Alright,if I do need treatment, what kind
of medications did they give you and how
did you react to them? Are my symptoms
similar to yours? Did the treatments
work?
Also, on a slightly twisted note...How do
I get my parents to beleive me? I usually
just go into my room and turn off all the
lights, because I honestly don't feel liek
being around anyone or anything. I've
told them before that I think I have
migaines, but they just brush them off as
simple headaches and tell me i'm just
being dramatic.
