Q: Weight Loss In First Trimester- Normal
asked by: aniNY on January 14th, 2007
New User, Becoming EHEALTHy
I am in my tenth week and have lost 5 lbs (2 kg) in the past month. I don't have morning sickness, but I do have aversion to meat (i can handle poultry at times) and most fish (need to stock up on canned salmon). I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, thin toasts and crackers, and try to get fiber through cereal, though too much milk bothers me. I saw my ob-gyn today and she didn't seem too concerned with my weight loss. She did say my appetite should pick up in the fourth month. Should I be worried?

I am fairly thin, I am small boned and have never weighed more than 115 lbs.

If your ob isnt conserned I doubt its a big deal, im 22 weeks (on tuesday) and I havent gained anything yet, actualy I wouldnt doubt if ive lost a few pounds, as long as your eating healthy I dont think theres a problem

but id be careful with the fish, im not sure about salmon but I know some kinds of fish are bad for you when your pregnant

just keep eating healthy and everything should be fine

hi - I wouldn't worry much yet if your ob doesn't seem to concerned, but talk to her about this if it continues!
And do be careful about fish..........I have 2 books that say the same thing - you should only eat up to one 6oz can of fish per week. So all those salmon cans you want to buy, you should only eat one a week!!!!!!!!! And try to eat minimal or none of shell fish - guess they are not that good either for pregnant women!
Congrats, and I hope you feel better soon! Wink

The deal with fish is mercury.

You're fine, a lot of people lose in the first trimester. I personally gained like 30 pounds in my first trimester, and now i'm losing some of that in my second.

I had morning sickness, but I only actually threw up like 3 times. I would constantly eat fast food because if I didn't eat something the second I wa shungry I got sick. I eat really heathily until I get pregnant, then I live on crap. How backweards is that?

I weighed 112 at my first prenatal visit, so I understand your worry about a small weight. Honestly, you're fine. Your hormones are going to be all over the place, and some foods are going to seem downright disgusting. It will probably pass in your second trimester and you'll begin a steady gain.
