I work in the infant section of my daycare (i am lead teacher) and I know that we are having a virus going around where they throw up and also have very runny nasty b/m. Don't just assume that it is teething. Check her gums to see if they are swollen if you really think that she is teething but as everyone else has said the best thing to do is call your Dr.

My dad put some liquor on my first daughters gums when she was teething and she stoped crying. Oh and I did not give him permission to do it my ex husband did.

I had a friend whose dad did that all the time, it got to the point that she would calm down by just seeing the bottle

With joseph I used teethers from the freezer, freeze a washcloth or wet it with cold water and tie it in aknot for them to chew, when he was alil older I would let him gnaw on frozen waffles, someone at my work told me back then letting them gnaw on a carrot but ive never tried it lol so I dunno about that one. They have hylands teething tablets but I was afraid to use those on joseph at all cuz they dont dissolve as fast as they say they do. I dont know that theres a age on them they are homeopathic

If they like a banana and can eat them then freezing a banana can be good as a comfort

I would only recommend foods and frozen foods if you have previously screened them with your child for possible allergic reactions.

This is all irrelevant though, as her child is most likely sick and not teething.

Look, I wasn't trying to be mean.
I was simply stating, from reading your posts, you are giving out advice from what you've "experienced." but how much could you really experience having no children and being 15?
Exactly.

Octoberbaby, do *not* give your 3 month old orajel. Take her to the Dr. Her stool isn't right and she's vomiting yellow...

Teethin can though cause teething diarrhea, but not yellow vomit.

i'm sorry I proberly did take it the wrong way i'm pretty stressed with school work and the rest of family have just been told. I lived with my sister when her first child was 3 weeks - 7 months so i've proberly experienced more with children than many 15 year olds
*edited to add*
i proberly took it alot worse than how you meant it because on here it does sometimes come adross that people don't think I will be a good mother because of my age and see me as just another silly little girl who got pregnant because I don't know about sex but thats not true about me

.It's not about being a teen mother. It's about giving childcare advice when you have no real experience. How old were you when your sister's first child was 3 weeks? How much do you really remember about "being around them" as they were being reared? Does living with someone else's child really qualify you to give advice to other mothers? Especially concerning medications you're unfamiliar with? Did the yellow vomit and strange bowel movements not ring any bells in your mind?

Hon, we're not trying to be mean to you. But this is exactly why you should not give advice. You've probably noticed that the majority of us will instruct each other to contact the pediatrician. And we're mothers ourselves. No two children are alike. No two illnesses are alike. And you can't know what's wrong over the internet. Better to be safe than sorry, right? How horrible would it be if octoberbaby made her daughter ill from that .Orajel, because she trusted your word that it should be okay? Do you see my meaning?

It's not about ganging up on the knocked-up teenager. It's about protecting little babies from iffy advice. We're protective of each other and our little ones, kind of like mother lions I guess. So if it seems like we came down hard on you, we're only doing it because we care about these children.

Gastro's going around.

Also orajel should not really be given to any babies, you have to be very carefull when giving it because it can numb their throat and they can choke. I used these herbal capsules that you would break one open and he'd drink the liquid. Crap can't remember what it was called but it was the shiznit,

i do tottaly understand that. I jsut presumed oragel would be from the same age as the one my sister used but it's not so my mistake. And about the yellow vomit and the bad nappies that was the only way my sister knew when a tooth was coming through for her little boy. And in answer to your question I was 13 when I moved in with my sister so I remeber all the major things that happened to my nephew like teethingand ear infections but obviously not as much as a mother would because well i'm not his mother

Wow I come back on here & there are 30 some replies! Thanks a lot everyone, & I didn't give her any orajel. I have it here because I was told to buy some for when she started teething but I don't feel comfortable using it so i'm not even going to bother with it.

I've checked her temperature a few times today & it's been fine every time. She only spit up that yellow gunk once & it wasn't much, it reminded me of when she was born & had flem for a couple weeks only it was a bright yellow. I've been keeping a real close eye on her though & i'm going to make an appointment to get her into the doctor first thing tomorrow morning. I gave her a little infant tylenol & she seems to be feeling better, she's playing & smiling rather than screaming like she was doing all morning!!!

As for the teething, i've looked a lot of info up online about it & with the symptoms that i've seen online, she drools a lot especially the last 2 weeks or so, she's had pretty nasty diapers, & I don't know if it's a sign of anything but when she gets cranky if I let her chew on my finger (after it's washed of course!!!!) she just goes right to town with it. Maybe she's not teething.. I don't know, you ladies know way more about this than I do & I really .Really appreciate all the advice!!

Oh & no she hasn't been congested at all. Just very cranky.

Thanks again everyone!

Ava was cranky with unusual spit up and nasty bowel movements and it was a mild virus.

The virus that music is talking about is called rotavirus and it is very contagious. The bm's and puke have a very distinctive smell normally. I work on the pediatrics floor at my hospital and it has started showing up a bit and should be picking up more within the next month or so. I would def contact your pediatrician because many babies with this virus get dehydrated quickly and have to be given fluids.

i have had several of my babies get dehydrated. While they are in my care I am constantly pumping fluids into them. Of course, I don't think that you can give a 3 month old gatorade and pedialyte but I am sure that you can give her something.
