Problems With the In-laws About Immunization Shots! Posted: 01-13-07 22:33pm
Ok...So my husbands parents dont believe
in immunizing a baby until they are like
around 2 years old. My father in-law is
a chiropractor so of course he doesnt
believe in any types of medicine. I have
never in my life heard of people not
immunizing their baby. They want me to
watch this video telling me the pros and
cons about it. They believe the shots
cause the baby to get sick, possibly go
deaf, autism, etc. Can anyone give me
their thoughts on this. Its going to
cause a huge problem when we get to that
point and I want to have the baby get its
immunization shots.

i agree with your inlaws 100%. Do some
research for yourself.
Please read this thread that I was a part
of, its called "teething" but in about the
second page it gets into vaccines.
Autism rates are now 1 in 150 children
thanks to vaccines. I dont want to risk
that.

as you will find out, the original poster
of that thread has an autistic son because
of vaccines.

there's no problem. If you want your
child to be immunized, that's all there is
to say. You will butt heads with your
inlaws about all kinds of things regarding
your child, but at the end of the day
you
are the parent. I do agree with .Natalia
about doing some research (not sure the
internet is the best place to do it, as
anything you research will end up scaring
you half to death) but definitely speak
with your pediatrician about any concerns
you may have. If you feel strongly about
immunizing your child, then do it and
explain to your inlaws that you prefer to
do this. Good luck.

what does being a chiropractor have to do
with not believing in medicine??
Chiropractors deal with the skeletal
system not the digestive system, not the
circulatory system, not the neural system,
not the immune system, just the skeletal
system.

This is your child not theirs so do what
you feel is right, perhaps do some
research if you are worried about it but
at the end of the day you and only you are
the mother

Deffinantly do research (that way if you
still do decide to vaccinate you have
backup)
but there is no direct proof with vaccines
causeing autism, and what people thought
might contribute to it (i beleive it was
small traces of murcury, but I could be
wrong) they have all but gotten rid of in
almost every vaccine
like dannzibelle said, its your kid not
theirs you do what you feel is right, dont
take their word on the matter but dont
just disreguard their word either (thats
where research comes in)
also like kia said bing a chiropractor has
nothing to do with beleiveing or not in
medicine, ive had chiropractors who have
specifically sent me to different doctors
to get medicine for some things

You're the mom, the decision is yours.
Tell them when they have a baby they can
decide whether or not to immunize. That's
what I always tell my mom when she has
something negative to say about any of my
choices.
I'm not entirely convinced immunizations
cause autism. I think they're just more
aware of it now than they were in the
past, hence the steady rise.

I say do what you believe is best for your
child. I take no particular stance on
the issue because I believe that like most
things in life it's an individual choice.
This is your child and it is your duty as
a parent to do what you believe is best to
protect your child. My family really
doesn't believe in vaccinations because of
a family history of negative response to
certain vaccines. At first I did not
think that I was going to immunize chu but
I live in an area where there are a lot of
immigrants from third world countries.
I'm not too sure that ins makes immigrants
get vaccines to live here. I would hope
they would but again i'm not sure. I had
to ask myself this question if they are
not made to be immunized and chu
contracted a disease and got seriously ill
or worse because I didn't get him
vaccinated, would I be able to live with
myself? The answer was and is no. So
my son is vaccinated. I get a lot of
crap from my mom but so far he's had no
negative side effects and i'm happy with
my decision to protect my child. To make
a long story short, you are ultimately
responsible for the health and well-being
of your child. No one else. I think
this is something that you should explain
(very firmly) to your inlaws.

I can understand what you are going
through. My mother-in-law keeps insisting
that I just have a c-section from the
get-go. Yeah, that's totally not me, I
don't even want pitocin or an epidural!
My mom gave me the best advice. I listen
to what she has to say but then I go on
and do my own thing. I am respectful of
her though and try not to bad mouth her or
her ideas to anyone. Remember, that is
your baby and you have final say over what
goes into their body.
I also would do some research into
vaccines. I know that I will probably
wait until his little body can handle them
better.
Btw, some chiropractor are also something
else called kinesiologists (sp?). They
did go to medical school and usually give
you herbs and supplements. I went to one
for several years before she recommended
that I go to and gyno for some of my
problems. My chiropractor helped my
headaches go away and also my digestive
problems completely left me after using
the stuff she gave me. It's all personal
preference.
