Dilated? How Soon Will I Go Into Labor Posted: 01-13-07 00:55am
I think I posted about the extremely bad
pelvic and vaginal pain im having. Well I
went to l & d and got checked. They
felt that there was nothing wrong.. Crazy
huh??: I keep crying and actually fell
that is how bad it hurt. Anyhow the doc
checked my cervix. He was very general on
it. He said he could get his finger in
but that was it. I know that means im
about 1cm dilated but he never mentioned
anything about being effaced or having a
risk of early labor. He didnt seemed
concerned. He checked also for infections
and nothing! Again these are navy doctors
in training. None of them full. That
makes me concerned! Would you think im
ok. And that the risk of going into labor
is small!? The pain hurts like hell. I
have non consistant contractions and well
im just nervous.. Any opinion. Im only
36 weeks.. Thanks sorry to be so long

Dilation does not mean you would go into
labor. Women can be a fingertip (it
sounds like that is what you are) dilated
for months.
If any doctor found the magic formula for
figuring out a woman's risk of preterm
labor or how long it would be before she
went into labor, he would be a very rich
man.
Simple point: no one can tell you when you
might go into labor. Even though these
are doctor's in training, they probably
see women like you multiple times per day
- and training hospitals never let interns
loose without an actual doctor to oversee
what they are doing.
If you are concerned, call your regular ob
in the morning. More than likely it is
normal pregnancy pains that come in the
end of every pregnancy.
Good luck!
