Throat gonorrhea or bacteria? Posted: 01-12-07 03:28am
I had unprotected oral sex and within 24
hour developed a severe sore throat. I
was tested for strep and the test came
back negative and I was too embarassed to
discuss gonorrhea of the throat with my
doctor. He put me on zythromax for upper
respiratory issues. It is now a week
later, and my sore throat persists just as
severe. Will the zythromax cure the
gonorrohea if that is what it is? And
should my throat still be this raw after
the full course of that antibiotic? If it
is an std in my throat, would symptoms
have shown that fast after my
encounter?
Throat gonorrhea can’t develop so
quickly after a risky sexual encounter.
The incubation period of throat gonorrhea
is from 3 to 10 days. Zythromax
(azitromycin) is a large-specter
antibiotic from the group of macrolides
that is not indicated in case of
gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is treated with
penicillin-like antibiotics (ampicillin).
Those people allergic to penicillin can be
given antibiotics from the group of
cephalosporines or tetracyclines. You can
request a microbiological smear from your
throat to identify the type of bacterium
present, if there is one.
