To my understanding a person can carry the hpv virus for years befoe any symptoms occur. It is possible your wife contrated this during her childhood and it lay dormant for all these years. I have an aunt who was diagnosed with hpv, had (fever blisters) hpv herpes simplex 1, but never had problems in hte femal region. I am not a professional, but I do know some people have outbreaks and some do not.

There is no connection to a bacterial infection. Hpv is a sexually transmitted infection. You don't get it from anything else.

Well, hopefully she doesn't get cancer from it. My aunt-in-law has hpv and now has cervical cancer because of it and is going through chemo-therapy right now. It's bad man... They were married for about the exact same amount of time and it popped up randomly. Not sure if there was any straying going on in the relationship, but they are dirty ugly white trash so you never know.
