Hey everyone, I just joined this forum in hopes of finding people I can relate to with this horrible eating disorder I have,. I was never fat, but after my freshman year in college I gained 30 pounds and became extremely obsessed with weight and food. I lost the weight and began to purge meals. To make a long story short, it's been about a year and a half. I binge and purge every day...Sometimes 4 or 5 times a day... I am so depressed I feel like this will never stop. Sometimes I just wish I would die so I dont have to deal with this anymore. My mother knew about this, but thinks I stopped puking long ago- she think's its over. I spend all my money on food...I'm broke....I dont know what to do. There's my story. Embarassed

Another thing....Does anyone think it's possible to recover from bulimia on your own???? I dont have enough money for a counselor, and I dont really have anyone to talk to.....

Oh my hun, bulimia is very hard to almost impossible to kick on your own. There is absolutely no one you can confide in that can help you.You need help and now! Before it's to late.I think you should let your mom know whats going on and ask her to get you some help. It saddens me to see that you are going threw this alone. Please, please get some help.
Wishing you the best!

Extremely EHEALTHy
Talk to your mum, be totally honest (it may be hard & she may be upset but she'll be alot more upset if she has to plan your funeral !! So tell her & get her support.

Also there are support groups for people with eating disorders or if there's none near you try support groups for stress/mental health/depression these are usually free so you can afford them.

The question you have to ask your self is what choice you are going to make life or death?? Then take the right actions to fit the choice you made.

It will be hard but can be done, if you are honest with friends & family & get their support & attend support groups. Also try doing some relaxation therapy (alot of what you're feeling is or is caused by stress) like, yoga, meditation, pilates,(tapes on these should be available in a library) gentle walks somewhere peaceful, get involved with a group doing something just for fun(i'm not suggesting you do all these things at once, just trying to give you a range of types of ways to relax since we are all different & so respond to different things.

Good luck.

Thank you guys so much for responding, it means alot to me....This is a great place to come when no one in the "real world" without an eating disorder could ever understand what i'm going through.

Oh My!!
If you are still in school, you should see if your school offers counseling, I am going to a 2 year college, and they have counselors right on campus, and it doesnt cost anything. If not then you should definately tell your mother, because if you can't afford to get help, she could help you. I'm sure she is not going to ignore your problem and not get you help. The first step to recovery is realizing that you have a problem. The second step is telling someone, and then getting help, but the hardest part is that when you actually get help, you have to do what you are told, you have to follow through with the plan. One of my best friends is suffering from bulimia, and it kills me to see her. Because even though she denies still purging, I know she is, and she is embarassed to tell me that she started again, because she knows I will be mad. She was doing so well for the longest time, she stopped purging she was eating healthy, then all of a sudden she got really depressed and she is starting all over again, it's a vicious cycle. And what scares me the most is that, this disease might get her first before she ever fully recovers. I hope you realize that what you are putting yourself through, it's not a joke, it's fatal. The sooner you get help, the more of a chance you have in beating this disease, before it beats you!!!!!!! Please think about this, and I wish you the best of luck!!!!!
