I have had my mirena iud since july of 2005. Each month I check the strings to make sure that the iud is still in its proper position. At first I was able to feel both strings easily, but now I only seem to be feeling one. I am pretty sure that they are not stuck together, but I know that this is a possibility. Also, this month the string seems to have shortened significantly, to the point that it is barely sticking out of the cervix. It used to be at least 2 cm. Has anyone else experienced this with the iud? I have heard others say that the string length may change depending on the time in the cycle... Currently I am around mid cycle. I don't really know if this is something to call the doctor about or not because the string technically is not missing. Please let me know what you think.
I've only had my IUD for two months, but my string length seems to change according to my cycle too. Mid-cycle they are shorter (right now, for a few days, I cannot even feel them), and when I get my period, they are much longer.
I mentioned that the length seems to change to my doctor and he said not to worry about it.
I'm only going to go to the doctor if I STILL can't feel them by the time my period comes along.
about the one string thing; i've had my copper IUD in for going on 3 months now. For the first month I was checking almost everyday and could only ever feel one string. In the second month one magical day I felt the two of them, so I know its there! but now i'm back to only feeling one, i guess they can curl up and hide really well up in there so don't worry too much.
these past few days the one string has been feeling sliiightly shorter and i was getting a bit paranoid about embedding, but these comments are reassuring. I'm hoping it'll seem the original length once i get my period
