Q: Shorter Iud String?

I have had my mirena iud since july of 2005. Each month I check the strings to make sure that the iud is still in its proper position. At first I was able to feel both strings easily, but now I only seem to be feeling one. I am pretty sure that they are not stuck together, but I know that this is a possibility. Also, this month the string seems to have shortened significantly, to the point that it is barely sticking out of the cervix. It used to be at least 2 cm. Has anyone else experienced this with the iud? I have heard others say that the string length may change depending on the time in the cycle... Currently I am around mid cycle. I don't really know if this is something to call the doctor about or not because the string technically is not missing. Please let me know what you think.

It is normal for the strings to change a little throughout the cycle, your cervix does move in different positions.
