As infants, we're at our most protective. But as baba's get bigger and more independant, it's inevitable. You're going to come across germs and illness. But while you can prevent it, hell why not?!

As for the "poorly parties", I have heard of them. But in the states, all baba's *must* get vaccinated for these illnesses. I tried to refuse the .Chick .Pox vaccine, but did research and it's *manditory*, so a poorly party won't be happnening any time soon around here.

Being over protected to the extreeme can cause problems with babies *detatching* from their mother. I.E, doesn't want to play without mommy, can't venture off, without mommy, etc.

I have to agree with 99% of yall with the comment of:"to each their own"

no vaccine is "mandatory".

There is no way in hell I am getting the chicken pox vaccine for my son.

I know several people that didnt get their children vaccinated at all period. They got state exemptions for personal reasons. I am not going to get into the why because I dont feel like getting into a huge debate. I have done my own share of research, I think you are all aware of that.

in *my* state, it is manditory.

I'm not from another country, and I have no religious beliefs, so I go with what medical research tells me.

Believe me, if I find out that it isn't manditory, i'll be pissed! I'm all about not giving unecessary vaccinations!!! There's nothing wrong with a child having chicken pox in my eyes...I had it...So did everyone else I know...

sarah, I promise you, they cannot force you to get your child vaccinated. Every single state has a policy of exemption.
For example, a friend of mine got exemptions for religiious reasons. She is christian. Her reasoning was that she did not want the vacccines because they contain aborted fetal tissues (yes this is actual fact) and this is against christianity. You can also claim philosophical reasons. And for that you can say pretty much anything.

There is a way around everything.

Aborted fetal tissue is listed as human diploid cells.

Information on just what vaccines contain these cells can be found at:

also general information on the dangers of vaccines can be found at:

That's doing it disgusting..

If all that sh*t is true my son is never getting a shot again.

I just have a question of which is more common? How many kids get problems from actually getting vaccinated? And how many kids are fine from it?

Natalia did u not get your son vaccinated at all from anything? Just wondering. I know some people are totally against vaccinating babies/kids. I dont know much about it so im not sure their reasons and im not trying to start a debate, I just wondered what your opinion is on them.

I just feel like i'd rather protect lucas from a nasty disease, which can cause severe problems, by getting him vaccinated, rather than risk him getting them.

Never heard of a vaccine for chicken pox, I guess its not offered over here in the uk. Chicken pox isnt all that bad tho really is it, and everyone seems to have had it -most while kids....I guess if I could protect lucas from getting it though by a vaccine -then I would.

i haven't heard of it either so I don't think it is offered here. Perhaps you can pay and have it done privately Confused

Mind you, the new meningitis jab has only just been 'released' in the .U.K - it's been used in the .U.S for about 5 years or so.

Max has had all the vaccinations that have been offered to him. I weighed up the risks and decided to trust the medical professionals. I totally understand why people would choose not to do that though. My thinking was that if .Max got seriously ill with something I could have prevented with a jab then I would hate myself. As it is, he had the .M.M.R (measles, mumps, rubella) and recently had measles so if he's not had the jab he could have had it really bad and perhaps even died...Horrible thought Crying
or Very sad

That is disgusting. Layla has had the mmr and I did not know it contained aborted fetus tissue Mad

i will still give logan the mmr though as the benefits outweigh the risks (to me)

Hehe trey's going for his 18 month shots today. He also got the chicken pox vaccine and the flu shot which he had to get as he is in daycare. To me the benefits outweigh the "nasty" side of things. It's not like they take the whole fetus and throw it into the mixture. Stem cells and such. People are stopping getting their kids vaccinated and these old diseases are coming back and stuff. Polio?? Not thanks. I got all my shots and am fine.

I personally would not give a child the combined mmr jab.
Way too many risks and there is the much safer option of having those jabs individually.

Sarah, you don't have to have your child vaccinated at all in the united states. There is nooo state where they can force you to do so. Don't be fooled into believing that it's true. I got into a battle royale with chu's first pediatrician about shots. He wanted me to give chu a vaccine that I was not comfortable with him having. I'm sure i've said it before but 3 of my nephews (now, tho at the time I think it was two and various other relatives) had severe, immediate respiratory side effects as soon as they got the dpt shot. All three (nephews) had to be rushed to the er and one developed pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week. The fool goat banging doctor told me that that was a chance that I would have to take. Hmmmm.....Yeah, i'm really gonna take that chance when we've a family history of severe reactions... Rolling Eyes needless to say I found a new ped. I talked with her to find out why the combined shot was causing the reaction and we were able to find a safer vaccine for diptheria and pertussis. Those I consider necessary because of the elevated risk of infant death. Now chicken pox is another story. He ain't gettin' it. Excuse my grammar, but I feel very strongly that a chicken pox vaccine is ridiculous. Not only is it not guaranteed to work it could also cause chicken pox. I don't need a seven month old with chicken pox and since he might get it later on even tho he's been vaccinated I really don't see the point. Every one has had it and I don't know a single person who's been seriously harmed by it. I think people are going overboard with these shots. Okay, i'm rambling. I'll stop now.

Chicken pox in childhood is rarely severe or dangerous. (i had it twice which apparently isn't possible but the ya go lol)

however, chicken pox in adult hood can quickly develop into shingles (iirc there is come correlation to menigitis with shingles *need to google it*).

My mom did not have chicken pox as a child but did get it as an adult and she was really ill for sometime because it developed into shingles.

Mumps also for the boys - in childhood rarely dangerous, for adult men it can be a primary cause of infertility.

Both can be life-threatening to an unborn fetus - if the pregnant woman contracts the disease for the first time while pregnant. (same with rubella/german measles).

I had it at age 4 and it's a happy memory for me because I got to stay home from school for two weeks and play board games with my mum and pap-pap all day long. I also got a brand new cabbage patch that my mom decorated with a red washable marker to match my chicken pox.

I mean, I have no family history of reactions, or any religious/philisophical beliefs.

Believe me, I was very intent on finding out the specific reasoning for each and every shot. Me and .Kay had this convo a loooong time ago...

Oni's ped actually told the hospital to hold off on her shots, as his office provided *mercury free* vaccines. Mercury is what causes many of the reactions heard about.

I think that preventing an illness, as opposed to letting them get it, makes the most sense. I mean we *are* talking about protecting our babies from harm.

I'm not gonna bash any woman that vaccinated their child, as we put our trust in the people with ".M.D" behind their names. And i, personally, ain't no doctor.

I also know that info found on the net isn't a good way to go about things. There are going to be *millions* of conflicting sights, and you choose which sit best fits your argument, ya know?

Reguardelss, all of our babies are helathy. Oni isn't going to *die* from getting the flu shot. Nor will she die from getting the chicken pox vacc.
(if there's a history of medical probs after shots, then yes, death is a possibility)

ok, ladies!! I've got hella errands to run!! I'll beee baaaaccckkk!!

Are you sure they contain aborted fetal matter? I guess I just don't see abortion doctors saving that stuff and storing it. I thought it was all disposed of as hazardous material.

Not trying to argue or anything! I just don't understand how that happens.

I would rather err on the side of caution. Alyvia's getting her vaccines because I would never forgive myself if she were to become sick later on. But that's me. I'm not knocking anyone who decides not to!
