Q: Vaginal Rash

I've had a rash for a week and a half now. This is not a typical genital rash. It's extremely red (like, flaming), swollen, and starts on my vulva and goes down to my butt cheeks. I haven't been sexually active in about 6 months, but 24 hours before I started to feel the rash, I used some ky gel. I've never had an allergic reaction to lube before, but i've never used the ky brand before. It seems to be an allergic reaction, but i've been using creams on it (benadryl and aveeno) and it got 50% better but hasn't gone away or stopped itching. I switched to a hydrocortisone cream today, so I hope that's what I needed.

Keep in mind I have no other symptoms, just the rash.

How long are allergic reactions supposed to last and has anyone had a reaction like this to personal products? What can I use on it? Is there anything else it could be? How long should I wait to see a doctor? (keep in mind i've been running up the medical bills lately and would rather not go just to have them tell me, "oh, it's just a rash, it will go away on its own blah blah")

I can't tell you for sure what this is. It does not sound normal. I'm just being candid with you. I think for safty reasons, you should consult your gyno right away.

Allergic reactions can last a week or more.

Please keep us posted

There's a clinic near where i'm staying, so I went the other day. The nurse also seemed confused by my rash, but she said it was probably a yeast rash outside the body. The anti-fungal cream (which they gave me for $10) seems to be working. She said it was probably caused by irritation since it was in an odd place.
