Hi,

how do I overcome social anxiety?

The training for my new job requires to talk out loud to the other employees and on my first day when introducing myself I was very nervous. When it was time for me to speak to 20 other people, I felt like I was going to faint. My heart was beating rapidly and I couldn't keep eye contact. I also felt at the pit of my stomach as if I was going to throw up. My voice sounded wierd because I felt like I was going to faint. I'm antisocial when it comes to talking to people. I don't know why but I just don't care to make any friends anymore or socialize to anyone. Help me please.

Well to me it sounds like your too worried what other people think of you. I used to be the same way. I know when I went out in public I would always have to look amaculate because I guess I was trying to impress the world. Always worring if someone though bad of what I was wearing, or thought my hair looked stupid, like it all was going to be a lasting impression, besides people in public will most likely only see you once so theres no need to impress them. Someone that you will be around more than once will see you how you truely are and not judge on your looks. Now I have learned to overcome that by not worrying what everyone else thinks. If someone cant accept the way I am I dont worry about it, and no longer feel the need to impress everyone.

Have you tried cbt? It has changed my life dramatically more than I ever thought anything could. I highly recommend cbt for panic, anxiety and depression. If you can't afford a cbt group pick up a copy of been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz and start doing the tea form exercise in it. This is one of the two books we used in my group. Take care and know you can get better if you learn to think more objectively about your symptoms through the cbt exercises. The more you work on the exercises the more relief you get, I am still improving today. Good luck!
