Q: Lower Back Pain Radiating Down Leg

Hello- I am a 21 year old female and for the past few months I have been experiencing some lower back pain- but it seems to be radiating down my right leg as well. When I sit I feel the pain in my butt and it is umcomfortable for me to sit down on hard surfaces for a long time (which is hard because I am taking a 4 hour class- 5 days a week) I have gone to my chiropractor and he says if my condidtion does not improve I will have to go for an mri to see if something is interferring with my sciatic nerve. I have a couple questions and hopefully someone who may have experienced this type of pain can clear things up for me:

1. I have done some research on sciatica information and it seems that most people feel pain down the back of their legs- but a lot of my pain seems to go into my knee- when driving or sitting in a car the pain in my knee is almost unbearable- I was wondering if knee pain can be associated with this diagnosis.

2. Along with the back and leg pain I have also had pain in my right lower abdomen and I was wondering if sciatica can cause this pain as well. It's so low almost to where my hip bone is- and I have gone to the doctors a couple of times worried that it may be appendicitis or something along those lines and cat scans and ultrasounds have ruled out anything like that. So would just like to know if this could be related or I should be further investigating this abdomen pain as something totally unrelated!
***so any help as to what could be causing my problem would be greatly appreciated- thanks for your time Smile

Sciatica
I have had similar problems. I only experienced any real relief when I had lessons in the alexander technique which teaches you to deal with the causes of back pain and associated problems.
One useful site is http://www.Thealexandercentre.Co.Uk which has a lot of information including how to find a teacher in your area

Right side low back pain
I am a 50 year old female. I had experienced right side from 2000 to 2006 when after numerous doctors & chiropractors, doctors telling me it's in my head, it's depression... finally after 6 years If couldn't take it any more and went back to my doctor and finally ordered an CT & MRI. Turned out they found a tumor in my spine L4-5, (Myxopapillary ependymoma) I had surgery in Jan. 2006, they thought they saw 2 more tumors when in there, had another MRI and they found 2 more wrapped around my bowel & bladder nerves, I had them removed in March 2006. The pain & problems I had experienced for so long was better. The surgery caused other problems but my doctor did an amazing job. In July 2008, my MRI showed a cyst, back to surgery for that. I thank God I found a terrific doctor because such delicate surgery can cause paralysis. I am posting this because you should never give up, and never believe what these doctors tell you, you know your body, insist they find the reason for the pain.

pain radiating down leg
Lilash,
do you still have radiating pain and abdominal pain? I'm a female with same symptoms (had them for 6 years) and my doctor thinks it's caused by my uterine fibroids pressing on the spinal nerves. I just had a nerve conduction test which ruled out a herniated disc in my back so the fibroid theory is more likely the cause. You might want to get a pelvic MRI to see if this could be the cause of your pain.

i was cleaning my hardwood floor crouched down both feet flat on the floor and then the next day my lower back hurt. I assumed i strained it somehow and expected my back to get better in a weak max. three months later i still have back pain and it feels like its in my hip shooting down my right leg.. i feel it after i sit down and then stand up. it's a mixture between sharp pain right when i stand up to a numb pain. when i sneeze its a sharp pain. hope its not a tumor.

Extremely eHealthy
Sounds like both of you have nerve compression and need to see a spine surgeon for a spinal evaluation and diagnosis. once you have that then a treatment plan can be devised to treat you.

Good luck
