Q: Can I Delay My Period For One Month Safely?

Hi! I use ortho evra and have been for years. Today (sunday) is the beginning of week 3 and next sunday would be the beginning of week 4, and I would normally receive my period a few days later. We are going away the following weekend and usually my period sticks around long enough that it would put a damper on the weekend. So, I want to safely switch my period to another week if at all possible.

I figure I have two options:
1) interrupt my current cycle by not putting week 3 patch on and try to start my period this week, starting my new cycle next sunday.

2) continue my current cycle and instead of leaving a patch off for week 4 next sunday, start my new cycle of patches right away.

Suggestions, anyone? If you can help me out right away that would be great because I pretty much have to make a decision today. (if all else fails, I just continue as normal -- better to be safe than sorry.)

thank you all! I'm curious about this too because i'll probably be anticipating the same situations for next fall when we're getting married. Smile definitely don't want to be on my period then!!!

Thank you thank you!

Ps - I know this is probably tmi, but he usually pulls out before ejaculation anyway b/c we're super-cautious since we're not married yet.

Pps - I apologize for any strange typos of capitalization and such... I have it properly spelled out when i'm typing, but for some reason the forum isn't reading all of the capitalizations.

You should remove the patch early, or push your period earlier, this causes a compromise in your protection.

You can 'try' and skip a period, not all women are successful, but it is safe to do this with ortho evra.

You may have spotting and bleeding... Anytime you try and skip a period, you run the risk of bleeding irregularities too.

Should *not* take it off early?

Correct.. Sorry Embarassed

yes, you must use birth control for at least 21 days in order to be protected. You can use it for 34 days, 50 days, or even 22 days, but no less than 21 before a 'break'.

I use ortho evra as well. Keep the patch on to miss the period. My obgyn who has been practicing for 40 years told me to do that when my period was going to fall on my honeymoon. No complications at all.
