I was wondering what type of treatment that there is for hypercondria. I have looked up the symptoms and feel that I am just that.... I have this obsession with cancer and think everyday that I have some form another. I have had multiple blood tests and physical exams that seem to be normal, but I am unable to convince myself that I am okay. I was also wondering if in the routine blood tests would my family doc be able to tell something were wrong with me? I am so worried that this going to take over my life and really make me ill. I have noticed over the last few months that my work has suffered because I am always trying to feel areas of my body to check aces and pains, not to mention looking ridiculous. Please help and tell what I need to do, take to the family doctor or see a specialist of some sort.

Have you tried cbt? It has changed my life dramatically more than I ever thought anything could. If you can't afford a cbt group pick up a copy of been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz and start doing the tea form exercise in it. This is one of the books we used in my group. Take care and know you can get better if you learn to think more objectively about your symptoms through the cbt exercises. The more you work on the exercises the more relief you get, I am still improving today.

I would echo this advice. Cognitive training can get you to eliminate all your fears if you work hard on the exercises and the tea form exercise in the book he mentioned by sam obitz is the one that has helped me the most so you should give it a try.

You're welcome. Hypochondria is caused by the way we think about what is happening to us and blowing things out of proportion. Once we get a handle of that and start countering those inaccurate thoughts we begin to feel so much better and stop having all those physical problems. Until you interrupt the cycle it will become a more and more vicious circle that feeds on itself and makes you have more symptoms to worry about.

Yes, you have to interupt the cycle or the symptoms get worse and worse and more and more in my experience
