Q: Stupid Hospital!
asked by: jessesgirl on January 7th, 2007
Extremely EHEALTHy
Ava got her 2 month shots yesterday and the nurse said that she may run a fever and to give her 1/2 dropper of tylenol every 4 hours yesterday and today. Well, we've been doing that and we've noticed she's been a little warm. Well, we checked it tonight and it was 100.0 orally with a pacifier thermometer and 101.4 under her arm. I really didn't want to check it rectally, so I decided to call the hospital where I had her to see if it was normal. He said that it was, but I need to give her a whole dropper b/c she weighs 13 lbs. 6-11 lbs. Is 1/2 dropper and 11-16 lbs. Is a whole. Well I wish the darn nurse would have asked her weight yesterday, we could have gotten the fever down sooner. Well anyway, I called the local hospital to get a second opinion. After letting me ask the question she said, "ma'am we no longer give medical advice over the phone. You need to contact her pediatrician." what? It's a simple question, "is 101.4 temp. Normal for babies after their 2 month shots?" she knew the damn answer. I wonder why they can't do that anymore? The other hospital did. I called her drs office and the machine said to call the hospital that gave me the advice. I'm so frustrated. We gave her a little more tylenol and put her to bed. Poor baby, we can tell she doesn't feel good. She slept all day today.

She cried while she was giving them to her. She stopped not long after. Her daddy took her and gave her a pacifier. The day after was the worse. She was sore with fever and slept all day. She's better today. No more fever.

It also depends on what you are giving her. Some meds it is only half a dropper at that age. You need to read the packaging and go by weight. I had to switch trey from tempra to children's tylenol a few months back cause he weighs so much. When I give him anything I have to give him the 3yr old dose. Lol
