Q: How Did You Choose Your Child's Name?

Just wondering how you ladies chose your children's names. I've known for years that I want to name my first child .Joshua .Ambrose if it's a boy and .Vanessa .Rose if it's a girl. Both middle names are from .Ambrose, the name of my best friend who drowned when we were 4. Eleven years later, and his death still hurts. I want to honor the little boy who was my best friend through the names of my children.

My ex husband and his family are very catholic and my ex husband promised his mother that we would give our children catholic saint names. So early in pregnancy I was given a catholic name book. We knew that our first sons middle name was going to be my father n laws name so we chose a name from the book that went well with the middle name. His name "alexander craig" our second sons middle name is my grandfather and fathers name then again we chose a name from the book that went well with it. "isaac william"

i like your idea with the names that you had chosen and the reason behind them. There is a sentimental reason which will be a great story for your kids when they get older. Their great names!!!

was wondering where her name came from, it's very unusual but beautifull.

My ex and I decided that if it was a girl i'd name her and a boy he would.
Trey means 3 and we named him micheal-trey because his dad and grandpa's names are michael (so he's the 3rd) and then dominic is his middle name which is my stepdad's middle name (so he has both grandpa's names in his name) so michael-trey dominic.

i didn't use my real father's name anywhere in my son's name. But you can always just chose your own names and scrw the rest of the family-lol (i'm kidding) I found choosing a name was hard and i'm not a huge fan of his name but it was the deal we made that he'd get to chose if it was a boy and it has a good meaning behind it so I guess it's good. Confused

I love it when this topic comes up.

0liver was named at the cadbury chocolate factory!.

I'd been having trouble getting steve to talk about names and right at the end of our visit is a souvenir shop...

He saw a stand of keyings with names on them and he went to go look for ideas for a name awwwwww

we knew we wanted nothing "contemporary" or unusual, yet nothing common either, and probably more traditional.
And so 0liver .Reece was his name.

For a girl it was always going to be .Williow (after .Willow in .Buffy) and .Amber because it fits so well together.

I used to babysit a girl named brianna and liked the name, so went with it. My sister's name is kathie, and she's so awesome. She is 14 years older than me, so we spent a lot of time together when I was growing up. In a lot of ways she raised me.
She was with me the whole time I was in the hospital when my water ruptured 2 1/2 months early keeping me positive and bringing me decent food. Of course she is a labor room nurse, so that helps.
The end result, is brianna katherine.

I let mike pick out jaylon's name. He's so wonderful, supportive, and loving. Even through my raunchy mood swings i'm having lately.

We wanted a name that was different, but could have an easy nickname "jay". Then thought that having a name that could be initials would be cool. Jaylon thomas. I'm really looking forward to meeting the little dude that sits on my bladder constantly and gives me heartburn.

i love .Buffy Shocked .Kia is officially one of the coolest people ever! <3 Laughing

my husband and I immediately agreed on a boy's name: .Christian .Aaron. I've always loved the name .Christian, and I wanted him to have part of my husband's name as well.

Girl's names were much harder for us. We came up with a short list of girl names, and when we found out we were having a girl we chose one of our favorites, .Olivia. But as my pregnancy ticked by I came to dislike it more and more, simply because it was always at/near the top of the most popular name lists. Not to mention, my mother in law wanted to call her "olive oil" as a nickname. So I convinced my husband to let me alter the spelling, and so her name is .Alyvia. I love it because it's more unique, and the spelling is beautiful and feminine.

Her middle name was impossible to choose. Every middle name I liked, my husband hated. He finally found a name he liked: .Kaida. I wasn't keen on it for a few reasons, but mainly because it was japanese. My husband and I are both white, so I wasn't sure how appropriate it was to give our child a japanese middle name. But he was completely in love with it, so I agreed. Kaida means "little dragon", and .Olivia (.Alyvia) means "peace", so her name comes out to mean "peaceful little dragon."

now that she's born, her name fits her perfectly. And I absolutely love that she has a unique name.

Here's just how dorky I am. I started taping buffy from the first night it was on, eventually I had every episode on tape. My younger brother and I used to have "buffy night" where turn the lights off and watch buffy and there was no talking allowed!

Now I feel silly that I taped every episode but when buffy first came out there were no dvds or boxed sets. The tapes are still at my parents house.

moving on to answer the original question...

From the moment we found out I was pregnant we knew if it was a boy his name would be 'dexter finn'. The day we found out it was a boy I started calling him dexter and it just didn't feel right. I'd gotten finn from some cheesy movie i'd seen like 14 years ago (complete with brian austin green!) and I loved it so I decided that would be his first name. We thought finn was more of a nickname and he'd need a longer "grown up name" but we hated finbar and phinneus and finlay so I came up with finnegan, and everybody went crazy over it. It was a huge hit!

His middle name, seamus, is for my father. My dad's name is james and seamus is the irish variation. Now i'm kind of wishing we'd saved seamus for a future son. My brother calls finn "giant baby seamus" and the more I hear it said aloud, the more I love it.

Nick already has our next boy's name picked out, it's xander (yes, after buffy).

I picked .Kaylee bc .I've always loved the name ".Haylee" but wanted something a little different. I thought at the time that .Kaylee wasn't too common but now .I see that it's 55 in the top 100 names of 06 Sad .Her middle name is .Ryan & that is her daddy's middle name also.

We had always planned to call our son .Logan as it was a name we both loved (from x-men Embarassed ) and when we found out layla was a girl I had a hard time trying to come up with names.

I like roxanne (roxie for short) but neil said that roxie sounded like a dog (how?!!) so that was dumped. Then my mum said what about lacey and I liked it but thought it was a bit too close to lace so I said no. Then we came up with keira (after the actress) and both agreed on it so we stuck to that.

Then a few weeks before my due date I started getting cold feet about kiera. I didn't want people to think we'd named her after the actress. That's when I decided to change lacey a bit and make it layla. We both fell in love with the name but she was originally meant to be leila but it sounded like one of us was arabic and also I didn't want people to constantly mispell her name so I spelt it how you say it.

I hated the name jane when I first thought of it but it went so well with layla that I decided I must have it as her middle name. I now love it and still for in love with her name everytime I hear it or see it wrote down (i'm such a sap- lol)

so when I fell pregnant with .Logan it should of been obvious what his name was but I said I liked lucian better. Neil hated it cause of the programme .The .Cramp .Twins but I really loved it (still do). I also loved the name .Nathaniel but he had an enemy when he was younger with that name so no to that too Mad

so I ended up agreeing with our original choice , logan, which I adore completely but if I ever had another boy I would call him lucian nathaniel! (lol that would p!Ss neil off Laughing )

logan's middle name is kyle. Origially it was going to be george after my grandad but then neil's parets were moaning that they wanted to be included so we said sod the lot of you and I chose kyle which was one of my favourite names growing up.

Our third chid was meant to be roxanne if she was a girl or brandon for a boy (totally random name lol) but as she was born early we felt we wanted to give her an extral special name so we called her .Angel cause that's what she is

gosh sorry my reply is so long Shocked I tend to go on and on and on and on.........

that is such a cute name! Very similar to a harry potter character, seamus finnagan (im a nerd I know)

i haven't actually thought about names. I still have a few years but I have always known it will be a decision between me and my partner, not just me.
