I just found out that I have gardenella (b.V). My doctor told me that it is an s.T.D. But the thing is I have never had sex. Well...My mom is totally tripping out because my doctor told her you can only get it from having sex. Is this true?? Somebody please help.

I've never heard of gardenella, but I know that bv is not always sexually transmitted. The cause is actually unknown, which is why some people get it confused with stds. I don't know why your doctor told your mother that!

"it may be sexually transmitted, but there is some thought that it is vertically transmitted from mother to daughter at birth."

hopefully you can find more info on it than I could. Good luck!

Gardnerella is not necessarily found in just girls or women who have had sex. It is a normally present bacteria that over grows and causes BV. It has been found in virgins so tell momma that. I am in the medical field and have seen it before. Mostly in teens who masterbate and do not keep things (like toys shall we say) very clean or have poor hygiene..

gardenella and having sex
I have had gardenella for months and finally had it diagnosed. My doctor has prescribed nightly insertions of plain yogurt and morning vinegar and water insertions to see if I can get the "good" bacteria back into my system through natural means. Throughout this period I haven't been able to have sex due to pain in the vaginal area caused by the bacteria. What is your opinion of this treatment? While I applaud the use of natural means to "fix" health problems and I have seen an improvement in discharge and odor-sex is still painful. This condition is obviously effecting our intimacy and closeness as a couple. Advice?

you probably need antibiotics to fully clear yourself up. did the doctor give you those too or just the natural remedy?

So far she just gave me the natural remedy and said if I didn't see results she would get me Metugel(?) a vaginal gel to use 2x a day for 5-7 days. Are you familiar with that?

yeah Ive used it before, it was awful! and it kills the good bacteria as well as the bad so you can end up right where you started again. are you using apple cider vinegar? I know someone who said drinking a little bit every day helped cure her bv. i know it sucks but keep doing what your doing, thats great your doc has ideas other than drugs!

gardinella
hi my friend has gardinella right now, and you can get it from having sex, leaving a tampon in too long, not cleaning yourself properly, it's bacteria. i know it can only be healed by antibiotics, and you have to stay away from sex, or tampons until it's healed, because apparently itcan come back. my friend said it's not an std, however it CAN be caused by sex.

that is some good info natagator, but id heard that pads were the one you should avoid! probiotic treatment is the best way to stay healthy after youve been treated.. natagator, your friend should definitly start one before she finishes the antibiotics. and there are lots of new options for that lately.

Daisygarden, what were the results of your natural treatments? success i hope?
