Migrain Medication

Ok, so ive been having migraines since I was 13 and quite used to them now. After numerous trips to the doctor I have been prescribed pizotifen and have been taking it for about 4 years.
After a while I got the feeling that I had become used to the drug, and that it wasnt working anymore, so I went back to my gp. She increased the strength and dosage. I would say I were an "early bird" if you like, always out and about by crack of dawn. After taking my tablets I wasnt getting out of bed until 1pm which is very late for me. So, once again went back to the doctors and she took me off the stronger tablets, and back to my normal dose. So now im still in the same position as before, and dont know what to do. Pizotifen doesnt work!!!!! I dont really want to go back to the doctors I get the feeling she is looking down at me, and getting sick of me! Is there anything else I could take in place of pizotifen?

There are a variety of medications that may be used for migraine headaches.

Nsaids may help to relieve mild to moderate migraines. Serotonin receptor agonists (triptans) are the newest class of medications used to treat moderate to severe migraines. They help maintain serotonin levels in the brain and so specifically target one of the major components in the migraine process. Rarely, narcotic analgesics are used to control a migraine attack.

There are also medications that may be used for migraine prevention, which can reduce the frequency, severity and length of migraines. They include beta blockers (propranolol, timolol), tricyclic antidepressants (e.G. Amitriptyline, nortriptyline ), and anticonvulsants (divalproe, valproic acid, topiramate, gabapentin).
