Q: If You Have Herpes

Just a few days ago I started to have this outbreak of what looked like genital warts. They are very painful and today now look more like blisters. I've pretty much diagnosed myself because I don't have time for a doctor at the moment.
My question is: is there anything you can do to help the outbreaks stop or be less painful without prescription medication?

hello kgirl-

hum. To be honest... If you go without the proper scripts [valtrex, etc.] it will take longer to clear up- up to a month. I am taking it- that you do not have insurance? That's alright- i've been there myself. What you can do is look up local urgent care clinics- or regular medical clinics. You'd be surprised at how many of those places have samples. I was even shocked- when I went to one to get diagonsed-them offering me samples!

I would really go and get checked. Call around and ask- I hope you are feeling better- and I know how painful this can be! Please go to the doctor- have them look/swab and they will give you something asap! Yes- it might cost 50-80 bucks for the visit- but they will also give you samples..And trust me- the pills are huge [ 1 gram,] but you will start to feel better quickly!

Pm me anytime-

I've had herpes for 11 years and it is very painful if left untreated. It will go on forever and you will be very uncomfortable. Valtrex is the best form of treatment. It won't cure it, as herpes is incurable at this time, but if you were to take a prophylactic dose of valtrex as routine medication every day your out breaks will be less often and less severe.

I thought canada has a national health plan or something? I'm not that familiar...So excuse me if I am wrong. What about planned parenthood...Do they have that in canada? They will offer you a sliding fee scale based on your income for both the examination and the medicine and your regular doctor or anyone else for that matter will never have to know you went there or what for. They are confidential. If nothing else, I think there are ways to find meds online....You could research it. But if it is not herpes and something else then you'd be ordering the wrong medication. You at least need a proper dianosis to start with.

In the mean time, sit in a bath of luke warm water and epsom salt..That may relieve some discomfort, but won't really fix anything like meds would.

You can pm me too any time.

To help the outbreaks be less painful you may try otc nsaids like ibuprofen, naproxen. To lessen the severity of an outbreak and reduce the time to heal you probably need prescription antiviral medications like valtrex or acyclovir.

Your title says herpes, but your post says warts...Which is it?
