I have always wondered why women have to get a pap smear done in order to get on birth control.

(1.) why is this???

(2.) also why do they have to have one done every year in order to still on birth control???

It doesn't make any sense to me

to make sure that your cervix does not display any signs of abnormal cells.

every woman should have a yearly pap smear done from the time she becomes sexually or she reaches 21 - whichever comes first.

If you are under 30 paps should be done yearly.
If you are 30-65 and have had 3 consecutive normal paps then you can discuss with your dcotor about having your paps done 2-3 years instead.

If you are 65 or over, have had 3 consecutive normal paps and no abnormal paps in the past 10 years, then you can discuss with your doctor about stopping your paps.
