Ok, so I was originally on bcp's but after a few years of taking them (and "abnormal" pap tests every time) I started to bleed between cycles. I went to my doctor and she stated that I should try depo because it might be the bcp's that were causing my abnormal pap tests (anyone else ever been told this?). So I went on depo... First thinking that it was going to be great, 1 shot every 3 months, not having to worry about taking a pill at the same time everyday, .N.O. P.E.R.I.O.D.S!!! Soon I realized what hell depo actually is. I bled every day that I was on it, and heavy heavy bleeding too, I would have to wear both a super plus pad and super plus tampon because the tampon would be saturated within an hour. When it came time for my second shot my doctor said that the bleeding should stop this time around, so I gave it another chance. No changes this time around (except the awful cramps that I was now experiencing). So i'd had enough and decided that I wasn't going to take any more shots (plus im not sexually active at this time, so whats the point on being on bc?!) so I never went back to my doctor. N.O.W it's been about 5 or 6 months since I was on depo and I have yet to get what I consider my period. I still bleed pretty much everyday (not to the extent that I did before though), as well as the cramps are still around. Now im clotting alot, which I don't think is normal. Anyone educated enough about depo to tell me how long it takes for it to get out of my system and my body to get back to normal?

I'll explain what is going in your body!

I am educated in womens health actually Wink

you are like me, one of the 'lucky' women that bleed all the time with a birth control method like depo. Some women will lose their periods completely, some will have zero change, and a few will have everyday non stop bleeding.
I did not use depo, I used the mirena iud, which has the same hormone and effects on the uterus as depo.

Basically, depo thins out your uterine lining and stops ovulation, as you fully know I am sure. In some women, the thinning out of the uterine lining can be so much that it is like an open sore..It keeps bleeding. That is basically what happened..

It takes about 6-9 months for depo to get out of your system, it has a very long duration..
