Q: Genital Warts Infection
asked by: Jennifer2003 on February 3rd, 2004

About five months ago I lost my virginity to my boyfriend. He lied to me and told me that he had always used a condom... About 2 weeks later I noticed bumps and went to the doctor. She told me that I had hpv. I never told him and we broke up... But that isn't my question.

My warts were treated and I haven't had any since. Its been five months and I am just starting to date again. I don't plan on having sex with anyone anytime soon, but I know I will eventually. I am really terrified of infecting someone with hpv though. How long will the virus be in my body? My doctor told me that not much is known about hpv and my body might actually fight it off and I will be "cured" in a year or so. I know that the virus always remains in the body, but I mean cured in the sense that I could one day have unprotected sex with someone (like my future husband) and not have to worry about infecting him. Is it safe to have sex again??? Is a condom enough to protect someone?? I feel like a leper. This has totally killed my libido. And i'm only 19, so its not like my sexual future is coming to a close anytime soon.... Please help...

A condom would be enough to protect the man from getting it. But by him putting his fingers down there..He could get them on his fingers! Yes you can spread it even w/out having the actual warts on your genitals. And it is always important to tell who you are going to be with someone or else use protection.

Your story is so much like mine I k now what you are going through my ex had it and didnt tell me cause he thought I would of broke up w/ him and a year later I went to the doc. And they told me I have it I was so scared I cant tell you how I felt I never even heard of this virus I thought I was gonna die but a year and a half later im married to a wonderful guy and im 6 mon. Pregnent. Dont kill your self over this yeah I know its not a pretty thing but if some one loves you they will be with you no matter what. You just have to take care of your self better now. Always use durex condoms lubricated, dont smoke, keep your self stress free, eat lots of greens, and if you break out keep the area dry as possible until you see a doc. Aldara is a home treatment but read the directions carefully strong stuff there is vitamins to take for your immune system like vit.A,b,c, zinc, mitake, a multi. Well if you need any thing keep in touch. Blushes :p

Blushes...
Thank you so much!! Your email made me feel so much better. I am so angry with my ex boyfriend. I haven't even told him that I have it. I'm afraid he's going to confide in one of his friends and people will start talking. Am I being selfish/childish? I only had the initial breakout which was in october and I haven't had any problems since. I'm so afraid to have sex again. I feel like a leper. I've only had sex one time. Its so scary how one mistake can change your life forever. Is it true that after a while your body builds up immunity and you eventually fight off the virus? Because I haven't had any problems since. I'de like to think that it will just go away.

Blushes... I'm so scared of what i'm going to say to my future husband (i'm not dating now, but eventually I wanna settle down- ya know?).. How did you bring it up to yours?? Is your husband okay? Did you give "it" to him? How did you work it out? Are you having any trouble with breakouts with your pregnancy (i heard they can be pretty bad). I totally know what you mean about being blown away when you found out you had it. I hadn't even heard of hpv. I guess i'm lucky that it wasn't anything worse... I'm sorry if I got so personal. I just haven't talked to anyone about it. It happened 5 months ago and i'm still so angry. Thank you so much for responding to me!!!

jennifer thank you for your response this is juddy 407. I read your questions and I know that when I went to the doctor they said to use condoms but that is not 100%.

Hpv is a virus and there is no cure for a virus, but just like the common cold which is also a virus it can be faught off and not cured, but very subdued.

Can I ask you a question?
How long did it take for your test to come back
my girlfreind took hers over a week ago and they said that so far its negitive and they will let her know the final answer

and also if you dont mind me asking what were the symptoms like in females. You dont have to get to graphic but I just want a better understanding

thank you soooooo much

Hey Juddy
I know it has been a while, but if you still want to talk post your email address again. I tried emailing you twice and it wouldn't work. I hope everything worked out with your girlfriend. My head is a lot more clear since "the incident". Take care.

I though once you got hpv, you always have it in your system, just like herpes? Is that not true?
