Q: Bladder or Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 29th, 2006
okay. I'm a female, fifteen, and a virgin. I've been reasurching my problem. I'm getting a burning sensation after I urinate. It usually can last up to 30 minutes. It doesnt happen very often, but it tends to happen more often if i'm nervous. All the information i've looked up about this says it's only occuring in males? Can you help me? Its not a bladder infection because i've had puscribed medicines for bladder infections and they never work.

Burning sensations experienced during or after urination are typical for cases of inflammation of the urethra (urethritis). A bladder infection (cystitis) manifests the same symptoms plus frequent urination and lower abdominal pain. Urethritis can be due to an infection, irritation, or allergy.Urinary tract infections (urethritis and cystitis) are more common in women than in men. To confirm urethritis, one must perform a microbiological examination of the urine and give a urethral sample. Usually antibiotics don’t have any effect if urethritis is caused by irritation or allergy, and would not be prescribed.
